Just rooted cuttings and upcoming winter

I've got some air layers and cuttings going and I'm not sure how to handle them with winter approaching in a few months. The cuttings are just leafing out and all have a few roots. The air layers have some roots but they have figs on them so they'll stay attached until the figs come off.
How do you guys grow late cuttings through winter or can they go dormant? Same with the air layer. If the figs ripen at the end of September will that be enough time for the air layer to establish itself?
The cuttings went in a month ago and the air layer is 2 months old.

You can get a used grow light from eBay and continuing growing for couple more months before letting go dormant after separating.

You may get a little leaf burn but the roots will harden and continue to fill a 1 gallon pot. Helped me get a head start last season for this year.  Then let go dormant in January and wake up in April. Only need 100 hrs of dormancy at 45 or less continuously.

keep them in an area that's not too cold, and make sure you control the water. my cuttings from last fall did fine in the garage until i stopped watering. they all dried up and died. it seems younger trees have an issue going dormant and they use more water than the older trees that go into dormancy.

Pete, How often did you water them?

they were all in 1 gal pots. before i had health issue, i watered 2 week or so depend on the need. then i didn't get around to them for 3 months. they were all dead.

now.. my 10 gal tubs, i only watered once at the start of the winter. they all did very well without the water for rest of the winter. i'm sure little water here and there would have helped.

last two winters, my older trees only need about half gal of water every month or so. once they are older and go into dormancy, it doesn't look like they need too much water at all during the winter.

also, last two winters with young trees, i noiced that leaves are not dropping like they should in winter. but we do have very mild winter here.

I water all my pots in winter storage the first week of every month ( gives me scheduling flexibility) 1 gal pots get 6-8 oz of water. no deaths reported last year.

Not a problem.....get yourself a moisture meter from Lowes or HD.  Transfer the liittle trees inside you garage.  Every couple of days insert the meter in our pots to check for moisture.  Those that need water just give them a little water and check again using the meter.  I keep 4 or 5 meters laying around just in case one dies.  They work great and will get rid of the guessing game of watering.

A poor man's water meter works good too.

A single Bamboo stick for shiskabobs, inserted into the soil,
if it's wet when you pull it out, no water needed.
Or a shard of a teracotta pot will work too,
it will look wet when water is present,
and dry when it's time to water.
