What seems to be happening with my inground figs is unless they start to fruit early in the season, the summer heat is too intense for them. Consequently, they wait until the days start to shorten before setting the crop. I have about a dozen trees in the field which have put on fruit in the past few weeks. All of my trees were damaged by the cold, so they got a late start growing. This is the third season I have seen this pattern. My guess is your tree needed to get established, so it did not set fruit earlier.
