Kalamata Black

Picture of Kalamata Black in Feb 2009 and again in picture taken just now.
Tree each season drops all the figs never a ripe one.

I have never seen a forum member on either forum with this same tree show a ripe fig and there are several that have it.

So anyone i miss get a ripe fig show me.
Its from Belleclare nursery.

Fail to give 1 ripe fig this season and ..........

Have you tried that acid that bc said could help?  Forget what it's called

Martin
The last picture shows the branch with many fruits is still extending. Pinch the top that may help somewhat (towards ripening).

Nice thick trunk.

Thanks for sharing.

Kalamata is a Smyrna-type fig (Table 1 of the UC-D DNA report from 2010 ) and requires pollination . This one probably is too. Good luck!

Celt i know what you talk about its a hormone spray no have not tried that and dont want to at one point i considered it.

Akram that branch was actually pinched earlier and thats a new shoot i figure just leave it as others are pinched and i gave tree a good pruning. There was a large branch cut that i sealed were that black mark shows as well.

Some of the lower ones came on around June 8th so i will wait and they should start to abort in about 2 weeks or so if tree follows its pattern.

Kalamata Black is going crazy this year.  I should probably thin it out.  I think it has over  75 figs.  Its too bad they are probably all going to drop off.

Tom have you even notice the eye change color on the figs or just stay white before they drop ?

I can't remember but I might have some pictures from last year.  I'll have to see what I might have.

Ok im curious Tom.

Martin,

(Sadly,) I think that it is time to kiss your Kalamata Black a good-bye,bye.
In spite of what Belleclare said, it most likely is of the Smyrna fig type.
At least I think my (UCD) Kalamata (white) is so too - it keeps dropping them too.

28. KALAMATA-A (Greek) (a) medium, black with dark red center, sweet, (2 crops)

I had gotten mine back in 2006 as 3-4" little twig.
I lost it a couple of winter yrs ago (my fault), and I do not want it back.

I also think that you should offer some twigs to some serious willing fig-person
in California (where there are fig-wasps) to try it out.

It is a very rare fig that should find its own place somewhere in USA...

that's a good looking tree, martin.. darn shame the figs are sticking around.

Yes Gorgi thats already taken care despite me wanting to bask in the glory of burning it to give it what it deserves after what i have done for this plant.

Bullet yes it a shame.
But if it does not work out i have another type in mind just might be totally out of my reach as i never saw one mention.
But i wait and wait and wait.  ; )
