Kathleen's Black.

going into 4th yr. the original source is Gene H. from East Coast Figs. i got his last few figs and this was one of them. had hard time getting figs off this one. i had figs last yr after pinching. this year, i had root pruned and since then it's putting out more green again. will have to see if it will put on the figs this yr. you will notice new branches coming off the trunk on the bottom.

just an update while i'm enjoying my dr. pepper and cognac.

this yr, it looks as if my KB will put on the figs without pinching. i have seen few pix of KB that herman has sent to others that seems to put on the figs without pinching.

it's second yr that KB is putting on the figs. i pinched last yr out of frustration. i'm hoping the taste will improve this yr and give me that "feed the others pigs" taste.

Hope we all get those great figs this year  :)

Looks fantastic, I got to eat some of these underripe on Gene's old mother tree last year and they were only OK/couldn't judge fairly. Definitely a good sized, good looking, and early fig. Mine is in ground but still a baby more like a 1 gallon size. I'm pretty sure it will taste top notch for all of us when properly grown/ripened/mature.

This is one I'm especially looking forward to tasting. My KB are in their second year (Thanks Kind Donor), and growing well. But I've not seen any tiny figs yet, though I have on many other varieties started last year. Maybe I won't get any this year on KB, and maybe the tree is just too young to show her stuff, but I have hope. :)

gina,

i waited 3 yrs before pinching. some waited 5 yrs without seeing figs. i would start pinching it if no tiny fig by next may.

Pete nice looking tree you got there. I hope all goes well. i give my trees some bone meal at thaw time and that seems to help with fruiting. i like the more organic methods myself and am unsure how potted trees would respond. i hear KB is  a very tasty fig, my collection has grown a bit but nothing old enough to bare fruit other than what i already had baring. my Hardy chicago is doing better than i expected after the butchering i gave her over winter. four foot tall and growing fast with lotsa branching.

hot bubble bath time with a kick or two of that old kentukey shine :)
