Kathleen's Black setting breba.

it looks like i'll be enjoying Kathleen's Black breba sooner than last year. it's has good number of breba already starting.

it's going into 4th year and 2nd year of putting on the figs.

Good for you . ; )
Edit: if you have the time and means show us a pic or two before you scarf them down!

Hmm if it gives a good number of brebas maybe I should put this one on my wish list :)

Yes!   Thanks for sharing.  I have a cutting under lights inside and another 2nd year one under wraps and waiting out winter.  You have me dreaming of the future.  Thanks again.

Pete,
I'd also love to see breba pic.s.

KB isn't exactly breba crop fig. i don't think so at least. i don't usually look for breba since our weather here is good enough for getting figs in late june. but it is still a nice surprise to see good number of breba on the KB. i'm looking forward to seeing some "improvement" for the KB.

Hello Pete....

Can you tell us how large the tree is?  You note that you have been growing the tree four years, and it put out figs for the last two years.  I was just curious.  In ground, containerized?

Frank

Looks great!

Is this unusual for a tree to be putting on figs with no leaves (cuttings being the exception)?

Yes ive seen it many times in my garage before buds break open but remove them mostly cause of my climate and in many case there just not as tasty and the main crop and a waste of energy in a short seasonal climate.

frank, the KB is in the 10 gal tub. i got this from East Coast Figs back in fall of 2010. per Gene, he rooted this in that spring. this tree didn't give me figs till last year which was 3rd yr. even then, i had to pinch to get the figs. however, it looks like once it put on the figs, it will cont. to do so next year.

i got this figs intead of Col de Dame Gris since i couldn't find too many info on CdDG back then. but i have read good deal about KB and how good it was.

last year, it had few breba. one of which was aborted, turn dark rather quickly and was hard as a rock. rest of the breba and main crop ripen fine.

the taste wasn't very impressive. it might be due to the fact it was the first year putting on the figs. you will notice that most people who kept this tree will have one or the other opinion. either, it doesn't put on the figs, or it taste great. i think i'm the only one who thinks that it doesn't taste all that good.

but, it seems by the end of the season, last few were improving on the taste. so, i'm rather looking forward to KB this year to see if it does improve and deserve the praise that it has been getting from other members.

Thanks Pete for the observations, and growing tips.  I would love to know all there is to know about this variety, and where it will grow at its best....long season, North-East, in the heat, West-Coast, etc.

I'm sure as this kind of information becomes available the good members of this forum will keep us all up to date.

Thanks for the added comments.

Frank

Thanks for the photos Pete.

@Bronx It's an early variety so that's a big plus--doesn't need the long season the other "premium" tasting figs do.

"Early variety"...."doesn't need a long season"...that's a good start for me.  I can't wait for my small tree to break dormancy, and put on some serious wood this year.
