Keep an eye out for the rain

Rain rain rain and today I lost several figs to the rain. I picked a Paradiso that kinda fell apart in my hand, but hadn't soured so was actually edible. Some Vistas soured, Cucumber had mold on it,Aubiqua Petite split, guess I should have picked those yesterday.

Pictures below are of Bisiri large eye which did not split, except very minimally at the eye and Bull's Balls eye which is, I guess, is a large Brown Turkey, which split pretty badly.  Both were eaten and surprisingly the BB was actually good, the Bisiri was excellent.

Cannot get rain here go figure and plants are drinking a lot.
Tomoorow we may finally get some needed rain .

Barry,
Same problem here. Too much rain, lost two Southern Brown Turkey figs yesterday, the eyes remained closed, but the sides split open in several places. They were still pretty good, but needed at least 3 more days.

One good thing about our current weather is that the daytime temperatures are higher and the trees are putting on a lot of new growth, the bad is that they are also putting on more figlets, that need to be pinched.

Attached is a picture of an Unknown that is usually only the size of a quarter with a very tight eye, it has swollen to almost twice its normal size due to all the rain. Also a picture of a split SB turkey from earlier this month.

Pete, you are probably getting most of the same weather systems as we are. I don't mind a lot of rain in spring when they are first putting on growth, but not so much once they begin to ripen. 2 years ago it was brutal, lots of souring and exploding figs. This year losses have been minimal so far.

my VdB and Kathleen's Black are soaking up the moisture.. they are both exploding this yr unlike last yr. but strangely enough, Paradiso Gene is doing much better than last yr. the eyes are not getting as big, it's still not exactly small, and wasps are not around like last yr to ruin them.
