Hey figsters, I just wanted to give props to the beautiful State of NC. My wife bought a vacation cabin, a mere 6 miles from Mt. Mitchell (the highest peak east of Texas) and we are loving it. It was an old smelly cabin in a great location with a creek in the back. My wife remodeled both the inside and outside and it looks and smells like new.
Anyway, this part of NC is absolutely beautiful. There are dozens of small and large falls, hiking trails, rivers, farmer's markets, festivals, and tons of other things to do. The views are breathtaking, the weather is perfect (compared to Tallahassee's summers) and the people are neighborly.
I planted a NJ Red fig in March and it survived but I am sure it will need winter protection. I haven't seen anyone growing figs locally yet.
I am wondering if there any figsters in this area? (Asheville, Barnardsville, Weaverville, Burnsville are some of the larger communities).
Regardless, it is a beautiful State. Kudos!
