Landlord chopped down my fig tree last year....

Well, she owns the apartments where I live and she was worried that the tree would knock down her fence and break the cement. I couldn't stop the Madness, but she brought a chainsaw and killed my beautiful tree. I believe it was a Kadota, not sure.

My question is that branches are coming out of the stump, so how do I get trees out of
these branches. I thought about just burying it and putting a box type around it. Do I have to make nicks into the branches or skim part of the green bark....not sure????

Lots of info on the forums about layering and rooting cuttings. You might want to search the archives. You'll be surprised how much info you'll get.

Leaves look more like Negronne.

Leon has the best topic I've ever seen on Airlayering.  See:  http://forums.gardenweb.com/forums/load/fig/msg070227508091.html

Please note:  If you have a plastic water bottle, Cut the bottom off, split one side and slide it over the trunk for an easy "pot".  See example here:  http://figs4funforum.websitetoolbox.com/post/Update-to-Panache-post-Airlayer-5111281

It's very, very easy.

That fig tree will never die unless your landlord digs the roots out of the ground with the trunk.

Well you could feed each one through the hole in the bottom of a pot. Just put some good soil in there and keep well watered. Roots will naturally grow into the soil. Just clip at the bottom of the pot at the end of the season.

Should be fine. You'll know you have roots by pushing down on the soil. If it doesn't give too much you are good to go.

I would also explain to the landlord that there's no concern about damage with the fig tree. The roots shouldn't be a problem for the fence or the side walk. I would do what the guys said, airlayer and put in pot. That way you have a tree plus you can take it with you if or when you leave.

The way that tree was placed it will eventually heave the fence and damage it.

She could drill multiple holes in that stump and kill it with certain tree stump removers if she knows what she is doing.

I would either remove as much as possible with a chainsaw whacking it where it meets ground and then cutting straight to the fence and reburying the whole thing elsewhere it will re-root as is and it will grow as a bush just like its doing now
or
make a few airlayers.

Wow, that tree was planted in a tight spot!!

The tree grew wild, probably a bird dropping. Thanks for all the information forum members. Quick question: the fruit was green and ripened as green some ripened with a hint of purplish brown. The inside was red like black mission. What do you guys think it was???  Live in Central California.

If it came from a seed it's obvioulsy a hybrid and not a 'named' variety. May be a cross between a Brown Turkey and mission or adriatic since these are the prevelant figs in the central valley commercial farms. No telling without DNA testing.
