Looks good. This is the first year for mine to produce. I had only one breba on mine so far. Not sure if the main will ripen this year. I'm hoping next year it will be earlier.

What did it taste like?

Another perfect fig

Hi,
Nice fig.
It Doesn't resemble the standard BT.
Do you have pics of the leaves ?

Beautiful!

Mine have a few maincrop figs, still at the stagnant green stage...I hope they ripen in time!

Here are photos of the leaves- pretty typical for EBT type figs. Laradek is very productive.

the beetles don't like this fig Leon?

Dave, if I leave the figs on to ripen fully, they attract the beetles. My Longue D'Aout produces many figs and with work, it is sometimes difficult to keep up with picking the figs before they become mush. That' s when these huge beetles fly in and land on those super ripe ones. LaRadek is just now ripening and so I am trying my best to get to the figs before the bugs do.

The leaves you posted show the lobes look slightly longer than the 'standard' EBT,but the basic shape is the same,it's interesting to see these Leon, thank you.The fruit shape, ripping and distinction between the verdant green of the neck and the body of the fig is also the same, though the colouration of the fig itself and the flesh is different,Do your LBT fruit get any of the purple coloration I see on the EBT?

has,
I know what you're talking about regarding the purple color.
I have not looked for this discoloration in the Laradek. The fig has to be pretty ripe.
If I see this, I will post a photo.
Where are you located?
Regards, Leon

I'm located in Birmingham UK,just passed by the mother tree of one of my EBT's,ive recorded it as Cadbury Unk(it's on the corner of the street where the famous Cadbury family,of Chocolate fame, lived),but I'm pretty sure it's EBT as all other EBT I have seen here are the same.I picked a slightly under ripe EBT and it had light purple ribbing and the inside was blushed purple as well dispite being under ripe.

The fig pics posted by fighugger(Michael) in the topic 'If you give Brown Turkey a Bad name, Check this' are exactly what gets called Brown Turkey over here, the pics posted by Frank Allen in that thread are quite different from what we would get here, much closer to your Laradek EBT.It seems what many of the BT strains in America are different from those sold in Europe, perhaps the American strains are closer to the LaRadek's BT than they are to EBT's,perhaps LaRadek's is the missing link?

Leon,is the fig you pictured a Breba or a main crop.Ivwas jus re reading the thread I mentioned and noticed Timo's main crop EBT also has an amber flesh. We don't really get much of a main crop here without protection so I never saw a ripe main crop EBT,the interior looks like a different fig

These are main crop figs. My trees produced a few brebas which are larger.
Here's my post from last year's crop:

Yeah that's more like it,ours always end up more purple inside then red, really interesting to see the diversity within BT,the exterior colour is the most telling difference,EBT's get purplish main as well as Breba from what Timo shows, must be LBT's signature difference from EBT,good way of identifying it for sure

Update 09/03/16, here are more pics of Laradek- excellent flavor and very sweet, thick meaty texture. A keeper.

Leon, glad to hear that LaRadek EBT does well in you're environement. I previously had an EBT type for about 10 years that was similar and the season here was never quite long enough to properly ripen.
Also the leaves are similar to Olympian which to my eyes looks like another EBT strain. After three years with Olympian I still haven't had a ripened main.

I am excited that I finally got this tree.I hope I get fruit next year!
