Large containers??

What are folks using for large (25-40 gal) permanent fig tree containers?

I have some cut In half plastic 55 gallon drums I will use.

I heard grow bags come in those sizes.

Salt lick tubs for cattle, ask your feedstore

I'm using cut barrels. I am also using grow bags but I've capped them out at 3 gallon because of the tree rat damage. 3 gallon is easy enough to re pot but if it was huge I would go nuts to walk out and see it all chewed up.

Try:  'Plastic Cattle Watering Tubs/Troughs'....'Plastic Fermentation Tubs' for winemakers.

Fill one of these with growing medium, and it will be, 'permanently' in one spot.  Don't forget the drainage holes....

PS:  I've seen these large tubs used to great effect when surrounded by decorative bricks, stacked stones, interlocking concrete blocks, etc.  The stones, etc,  covers, and hides, the unsightly tubs.  Plant some decorative ground cover and flowers in the tub along with the fig tree to hide the stone-tub transition.  Disassemble the stacked stones if tub has to be moved.

I found a nursery that had an acre of used pots they let people have.  I went through the pile carefully, rented a U Haul and the rest is history.

come with wheel, easy shuffling, and the plastic is made for outdoor use.
I remember I saw something like 50 gallon wheeled for $10 in store last year.

55 gallon blue plastic drums, cut in half. They are $10-20 each, so $5-10 per pot. Very heavy duty plastic.

I just ordered the Accelerator pots.
Sleeve of 9ct. 22.5gl.

I should have them in a couple weeks.

I will use 18 gallon utility tubs and the plastic barrels cut in half, most of the Italians and Portuguese growing figs here at home are using the barrels so I am assuming they have worked the best over the years.

Rafed, how much were they and who did you order from?

Bob,

They were $139 plus $52 shipping.

I want to try them and hope they live to their expectations as to eliminating the need to root prune.
I won't know this really works till three or four years down the road.

There a few folks out there with similar product that say their stuff is good and their plants look happy and healthy.

I will use those on the sure keepers for now. Not going to place any fig in them. If I like them and if they're not too bulky then I will place a larger order. If they are a bit bulky then I will order the 12gl. pots.
