Anyone have any idea on the world's largest fig on record? 

I'm trying to figure out if the size of my figs are typical or rare.

The largest one this harvest season so far has been a Brown Turkey at 4 1/8 ounces.

In September of 2008 i had one weigh 4.55 ounces.
I think i showed the picture on one or both forums and i may have deleted since i took 99% pictures out of photobucket.

I still have picture showing it on the scale on hardrive though.

I'm almost certain that there are figs bigger than that as well
But
of course its taste that counts and seems like the finer figs do not get that big at least to my palate.

Here's a link http://figs4fun.com/Links/FigLink282.pdf that claims: "The largest fig grown is the Patrick's Supergiant fig that can weigh-in at ½ pound." I checked the Encanto varieties section but it didn't offer many specifics.

You have to separate breba and main crop. Brebas are typically larger. After that, there are several main-crop figs that are 1/4 pound (4 oz) or more. TyTy has figs that size of soccer balls, which would probably weigh 5-10#, realistically.

Possible largest figs would be Black Mission, Brown Turkey, Texas Blue Giant, Walker, Deanna, Jack's Quarter-Pounder.

However, some of the best pigs are no where near the largest. I will take 3 small killer figs over one giant mediocre fig, any day,

My biggest main crop fig so far was Brown Turkey from Monrovia that weighed 160 grams and wasn't fully ripe.

Mine are just starting to ripen Brebas right now, Nelson.  I'd say I look forward to the fruit, but ... Meh.

Atreano Breba are also very big in size,and good tasting too.
However the main crop is better tasting,and superior to Breba.
Yet I like it better,than  Calif, Brn Turkey breba.

LOL- an entire crop from 1 tree "potted"  would weigh in much much more than a half pound . :)

An inground tree would be bada bing.

No, I was trying to be funny, sorry  :)  No need for you to apologize.  I have had to be away with 1 day's notice for 4 months so my crops often get ruined.   I'm lucky to have any plants left at all, let alone a crop.  Just poking fun at myself.

How about exchanging some cuttings from the Fig trees with 'big' fruit only???

I don't know if it works the same way with figs as it does with apple and pumpkins but I imagine if someone wanted to grow a record setting fig they could start with a large fig variety, then prune off all the fruit as soon as it appears except maybe a handful or even one.  Make sure the fruit is in a location where it gets maximum sun and preferably at the end of a branch.  If you wanted to get really serious figure out what the best root stock is and graft the variety to that.  Then you'd be aiming for the record books.

I remember purchasing one at a market in Salzburg Austria when I was a teenager. It was at least 5x larger than any I have seen before or since. I am quite confident it was over half a pound.

The taste is quite good . But the fruits of the harvest of the main , of course , more sugar .

Before biggest figs was 222 grams ( 7.8 ounces) . Grade " Dalmatic " (" Die Dalmatie ") .
