My early fig cultivars started getting ripe on August 10.
That is exactly when the rain started and it rained every day,if not in the day time,then at night,and tonight we will have rain again.
Total rain amount from Aug. 10 to now:
According to my rain Gage 10 inches plus.
All my ripe figs on all cultivars including the closed eye Celeste are full of water,and watery tasting.
The eye opened on my best cultivars that otherwise are closed eye,but I can't blame the fig trees.
This climate is positively one of the worse for growing decent fruits.
I collected all my ripe figs last night and placed them in freezer to make Jam,later when I have enough to do so.
That is why ,it is important to have late ripening cultivars too,because they might get decent climate at the ripening time in September and October.

I saw that on the news too, hard to believe we are following the hottest July on record with the rainiest August or maybe the rainiest month period on record. Fortunately I have a number of trees a bit under the eves of my house in pots somewhat sheltered from all that rain. Problem is usually getting enough water on them. Just picked a mess of Dark Portugese and boy were they good!!!!

Herman I know how that feels. Every year we have a nice dry season from April to June most years and then the rains of summer come, just as the Celeste figs are ripening. This year we were in drought condition for a long while so when I had to leave town for 4 days in the middle of July, I put my potted trees in the deep shade under a large mulberry tree and watered them good. I figured they'd be safe for the 4 days. I returned to find that it rained 5 inches in 4 days. I ended up losing a couple of my most prized ones.

Edit post,Aug.25:It continue to rain every day except Aug 24.
Today Aug 25:Big rain in the Morning,that will continue till Monday at least.
People in my climate can't have pretensions to get ripe figs properly ripe in this kind of climate,doesn't Matter what the cultivar is.
I picked up all the figs this Morning again,placed them in refrigeratore to make fig Jam later.
