Last E.L Sal's Figs

Oh i dont like when this time comes around, i actually had to break off with hand instead of them falling off in hand when simply lifted upwards as i think the cold nights is getting to them now, if i left on any longer they would have just shriveled up and tasted poorly as is they were not as sweet as the last bunch. They are a dark dark purple now on these last ones and no more to come tree is done although there is 4 or 5 more which i doubt will do anything at all. Today i was actually watering tree's in a sweatshirt as temps only hit 59 or 60 today, next 4 days will bring they say 42 - 45 degree's for lows at night. My other tree which is unknown is still ripening figs and in a day or 2 i will be able to taste i hope. So here's the last of Sal's till next year.

I think I know why all your figs are ripe on Sal's and Hardy Chicago!
First of all they are in CONTAINERS,and second,is your HARD WORK,in the Spring, taking them out and in early,on sunny days.
So your hard work was paying off.Who say Hard work does not pay?
Congratulation.

Herman thanks.
yes its work for me not to bad as now im retired and have more time for the tree's and hope soon to have what tree's i have wanted in past so i will have more work then with more tree's (sigh) but i have made the space needed in the garage for them.

The SAL's look great. Good thing those figs are full of nutrition to give you the strenght to move those pots around!

Good thing the handtruck does all the work though as im a little guy, actually its not to bad though when i think about it. When i had the tree's in whiskey barrels that was a struggle though because i had to put a tie down strap around barrel and handtruck cause the bottom of barrel was to big and did not fit on lip of handtruck, now its much better with these containers i dont need the strap anymore, also the handtruck has ball bearings set in the wheel rim front and back of each wheel so it rolls real nice, dolly is probably as old or older than me, they just dont make stuff as good anymore for the most part, i even repainted it so it looks good, some of my neighbors must think im nuts when they see me moving the tree's around, at least the one next door though understands as he has a 2 year old tree i gave him, this will be the first year for him to store it and i will move for him in his garage when the time comes. He was the one that gave me the dolly to begin with as i used to borrow the other neighbors for the winters, he found it when he goes on his journeys around various towns looking for scrap. Actually he has gotten some decent stuff like a newer lawnmower that someone tossed simply because it needed a new pull rope, he's older and it keeps him busy taking apart things for the various metals in them. Also he loves the figs we talk in summer everyday about our tree's this year.

what size pots are you using for your older trees?

Steve im not sure i bought from home depot it was there largest ones in the plastic, 2 are in those and 2 are in one size smaller but when i root prune this winter they will 4 in same size then, course i will need more for others in future as well. Oh i forgot in heart of summer when i water they take up a 5 gallon bucket of water each tree every other day because of the conditions they have on hot cement patio it just sucks the moisture out of em but they really like it plus some goes out bottom too. Once in a while i use the root feeder to loosen up things inside pots when i put it in them and turn on the hose they enjoy that watering as well i notice, its fun for me.

Martin, as long as your trees are not telling you their feelings directly, then I'm glad. If they are talking to you, then I'd be worried. Just kidding of course. When I was away a few weeks back, I had my neighbor come by and water my trees. I told her she had to sing to them in italian and they were very special to me. She took it to heart and her husband told me she actually did sing. We all got a laugh out of that one.

Funny y6ou should mention that my neighbor often ask me if i sing to them in italian cause he says they do so well, gee world is smaller than i thought.

All I can say about watering your trees, Ya darn well better not have me doing it, only Italian I know is "Ciao", hell I had to google that!
Now if ya needed me to sing some S Kikkin songs I might could do that!
(PS, Ill let ya guess what the S stands for.HEHE, dang I'm terrible!

I think my figs have a diverse musical taste. They could use a little variety as long as they don't take up chewing tobacco ;)  Funny thing is that the only "Italian song" she new was That's Amore. It was funnny that she actually did it though.

Thats amore is easy for me to sing as thats most of my last name, just put D' in front and you have my last name, of love is meaning . Dean Martin sang it oh so good!!!
Martin of love
; )

Martin,
You better be a "Martin of love", or it is soon gonna be "Garage living for you Mister" But at least you will have your beloved fig trees to snuggle up to on them cold, cold Chicago nights!

HEHE

You guys are a blast! Thanks for the chuckle.
