Last Seasons Ronde De Bordeaux

This plant was damaged bad in winter storage, last season when stored was topped at about 4 feet, as Akram guessed in another post about this plant and was right i gave this particular plant to much water near end of season and coming out of storage the main trunk was spilt in several places where branches met it. I left it alone and several weeks back cut it down low to the last spilt and sealed it. The wedge cut you see is 1 of deep splits in trunk and sealed, it now has started to put on growth. I put a piece of chip bark as the shoot when first started was growing towards the trunk, took chip out and now is ok.

At least yours came out of dormancy.  Mine never seemed to snap out of its deep sleep.  The top 10" or so is dessicated looking, but the bottom 2" above soil line still looks healthy, so I'm patiently waiting and hoping I still have a RdB in my collection come fall :)

Hi Jason its been a while !
here is idea of what it looked like when i first had it late June and its growth in late August about 2 months give or take a week or so.

It is indeed a fast grower. I can see this variety being used as a rootstock for black madeira.

Hi Bassem,
that was my exact thinking as well useing for rootstock on my ischia black though but i probably wait till next season and catch the bud as ischia plant breaks dormancy and then do the surgery. This season i just try to keep ischia alive it only has 2 shoots out now from its 2 total branches and i hope it to put on more going into dormancy this winter, plant is very small going into its 3rd season and i lost a few precious inches of the ends of those branches in dormancy.
I was deciding on useing the Ronde or the dark portuguese and today decided the ronde is a better choice .
Its fun watching them grow including the other ones i purchased from you and will post pictures of them also as time goes by.

Speaking of Madeira i had hopes for getting a few figs this season but it lost all the top buds that were beginning to open when left out in high 40 degree temps and is now just growing a few shoots at soil level off the main, everything above that point is bare but alive but it is set back considerably.'
Next season i know better what to do with this plant. I topped it off at 30 inches last season.
Once again Bassem many thanks for a fine plant and hope to talk to you soon.  ; )
