I picked my first ever Latarolla today, maybe a little early but didn't want to risk losing my first one to the birds. A friend gave me a few Italian Honey for comparison so I put a couple next to the Latarolla for comparison and took the obligatoy pics with a quarter. I recall discussing the differences between Latarolla and Latarulla (which is synonymous with IH) on a couple other threads and wanted to show the differences. As you can see, the Latarolla is much larger and pinkish red inside. Both were sweet, but the Latarolla was richer and crunchier and to my taste a better fig

BLB, thanks for the photo. The Latarolla looks a little early but one can appreciate the light red interior and size of the fig. If you get any riper ones, please share the pics. Thanks.

Yes Leon it was a little early. Even though I have been growing figs for a few years I still succumb to the anxiety produced when a tree begins to ripen figs every once in a while. This one was so pretty I didn't want to share with critters. Tim you can easily see the differences between the 2 and that's what I wanted to get out there on the forum. A fully ripe one will be a real joy.

Here is another Latarolla, picked today. Much more ripe and the taste verifies that, very good indeed. I am suprised at the size, I knew they were fairly large, but didn't expect them to be quite that large. The tree is still pretty young so I'm only getting one at a time now.

Both are main crop figs. 

I had a couple of the cuttings I bought this winter succeed so far, I hope they turn out as good as yours.

Nice anecdotal evidence Barry. Is there any significant difference in culture, soil, sun that would impact the results between your neighbor's fig and yours?

Eli, they exist.  But they're outrageously expensive and build for very specific things usually wine.

Ejp is the Latarolla pioneer but there may be others sourcing it from its Italian origin.

I received several cuttings from Barry, they are extremely healthy, easy to root, and fast growers. Way over a foot in a few months. I should have asked about taste, please someone, help us out.
