Lattarula

Does anyone know if there is a difference between Italian Honey, Lattarula, and Peter's Honey?  When I look up these in the 'Varieties' section, it seems that these synonyms are all cross referenced.  However, on some nursery sites they have Lattarula and Peter's Honey for sale as though they are separate figs. ?????

This is part of the fun and mystique of figs. Every fig has ten names, and every name has ten figs. Identical figs have probably been sold under all of those names, and different figs, as well. One man's Lattarula may be another man's Italian Honey. They are cross referenced at Figs 4 Fun because some information source(s) indicate they are the same, but that isn't necessarily universally agreed, or correct. Pix at Figs 4 Fun are of my trees, as they were labeled when I received them, or as other people's fruit by that particular name, looks, at their location. Still doesn't make any of it correct - only lets you know what a specifically named tree's fruit looked like at a given location, under a particular years weather, fertilizer, etc. all of which can change looks significantly. That is a disclsaimer that any lawyer could be proud of.

Over my limited experience I have seen Lattarula (Lattarulla) mentioned as synonyms with Italian Honey but do not recall Peter Honey mentioned as synonym with the Lattarula or Italian Honey.

Peter's Honey is smaller than lattarula and it needs alot of heat to ripen a crop. Lattarula is common in Vancouver, Pacific Northwest. I preferred Lattarula over Peter's Honey. Definitely there are not the same fig.

Thanks for your input.  Things seem a bit clearer to me now.  Sometimes the naming issues with figs can make your head hurt!  Thank you for clarifying that Peter's Honey is not the same.  I was going to get a Peter's Honey for coastal California but I don't think I have the heat.

Ditto to what the Moderator said.  Paradise Nursery sold Marseilles (a variety once favored by President Thomas Jefferson at Monticello) as Italian Honey. Some sources say that Lattarula is the same as Marseilles. Another synonym for Marseilles is "Lemon Fig".

I have both Marseilles (like Lattarula) and Peter's Honey. PH definitely needs heat to ripen well. I have it in my hottest spot against a brick wall.

Oh oh- I have a Latturula (Italian Honey Fig), Peter's Honey Fig and a Lemon Fig (a fine gentleman from Texas sent me).... I will take pix and post of all of them later in the season- tree, leaves and fruit.... at least that will tell me if mine are all the same- ha!
