After a one bad winter and some critter damage my 5-year old lattarula finally enjoyed a milder winter and looks great. It has grown about two feet so far this year, but made only two breba that hung on. They look about the same now as they did a month ago, though. More worrying to me is the fact that I don't see any main crop figs forming. I see a few tiny bumps that might turn into figs, but at this point in the year every other tree I have has very clear figs that are at least pea-sized (most are larger).

Is my tree still maturing / recovering from past hardships or did I go and waste five years on a variety that only produces one crop?

Is it growing vigorously still? If so, try pinching the growing tips.

If it is Latarulla from EL it is a breba only crop like desert king. I just gave my tree away since I have a desert king.

This one is really messed up, synonym wise so your Lattarula may be different than 3 other people with Lattarula.  The interior color varies from a clear yellow to a deep strawberry color in synonyms.  You'd probably get a better answer if you told us what the interior color of a ripe fig is.  Then maybe you could find one somewhat similar to yours.

Not to confuse the issue, but hopefully to clarify. Latarulla is medium sized fig with a light interior. if it has a dark interior and is somewhat larger it is likely a Lattorola, (check spelling) Lattorola is generally prefered by those who grow it, but not nearly as readily available.

Thanks for all for all of the info. It was definitely sold as lattarulla, not lattarola, but who knows what it really is. I believe the source was Raintree nursery.

I originally bought it because the description sounded a lot like my mother-in-law's tree which is very tough to root (for me anyway). Hers always sets two large crops and I got a nice air layer from it this year, so if my "lattarulla" is only going to give me one crop I'm going to ditch it. I guess I'll see what the breba do and probably give it another year.

Just to add to Barry Comment

In Italy, Latarulla is known by different names in different regions, while it seems Lattorola is known by that name alone. Check out this site for a wide variety of Italian figs.

I was just readong that, but thanks for pointing it out. I guess my best bet is to be a little more patient and hope that the two breba eventually ripen and give me a clue as to what I have here.

Aaron,
   The Lattarula cuttings I got from you are growing and it looks like there might be a fig starting to grow on one of the two trees. If it does then it'll be a 2 cropper, so don't get rid of it just yet. I'll keep you posted.
