Hey everyone - this is my second shot at balcony fig gardening! I got a new celeste, and have been trying to put it outside while it is warm enough (bringing it back in while it is still getting under mid-50s at night - DC area is getting dumb weather at the moment). I've been noticing some leaf damage, though - some looks brown and sort of crumbly along the edges, some looks eaten... Is this from a bug? Or a fungus? Do I need to do some sort of treatment, or is it really not a big deal? Sorry if this is a silly question!
Hi:It looks to me like the sun fried it a little bit on the crunchy leaf. No guesses on the torn leaf. Is it possible it could have been torn while moving it in and out?
Don't worry about that damage. (almost) nothing eats figs around here. Even when they do I think they don't like it because they don't come back to it. Also leave it outside all the time. Danger of frost has passed in DC/MD. Only need to bring it in if frost is possible.
Thanks! I went ahead and put it outside today (and my meyer lemon, though I am keeping the pineapple/lemongrass/tomatoes in for another week at least). For some reason I was convinced it didn't want to be outside under 50 degrees! I'll keep an eye on stuff to make sure that whatever it was doesn't come back, and hopefully the clouds will help everything else acclimate to prevent more burning!
