Leaf on cuttings

someone gave me a cutting from their tree, the type is unknown , what is the best way to deal with it? take the leaves off, and put in dirt , leave leaves on and put in dirt? help!!!

Here's a video.  A lot of people do this but there are many ways.

We do have a vineyard, so propagation is a no brainer to me.  Grapevines want to live, and so do figs.  All plants are the same.

Get the thing in water, first, and maybe take a slice off the bottom to encourage water uptake.  Then strip all the leaves, and cut the top one in half.  A plant without roots will die if it is trying to support leaves with no roots.  Be patient and let the roots grow.  Yes, stick it in a growing medium.  Differing opinions on this, but it is a green cutting, so wrap it in damp (not dripping wet) soil of your desire, and leave it alone in a shady place.

You have to use a soil that drains well.  the roots need moisture and air to survive.

thank you for all the responses, I'll try my best with this and keep you posted. When I get pictures uploaded on here I'll post and maybe someone can tell me what this is. thanks again.

ok, here are some pictures of the cutting I posted before asking about leaf cuttings, anyone have any suggestions as to what this fig is?

It's definitely a nice looking fig.  Once you get ripe fruit post pictures of the leaves, the ripe fruit, the inside of fruit cut from stem to eye and someone will help you.  Best to start a new thread.

Thanks I'll do that when it happens, maybe it's one those $840.00 fig trees from ebay?????? lol
