Leafhopper bane

Leafhoppers have been a pain on my figs this year but now the tables may be turining.  This morning while checking my fig tree varieties for new fig embryos, this guy was patiently waiting for his next meal to pass by.  I have never seen this type of frog, but he is welcome in my garden. See pic.

The Balance of Nature...working as designed.

Frank

Hi C.H.
looks like the frog is real comfy in that spot !

Bags of pine bark nuggets,  various brands of potting mix and a recent orchid brought back from Fla. are the only reason I know of that the frog may have  hitched a ride in.  Repotting trees that were root bound, about 50 from 1 gal to 3 gal pots has provided the frog a good home not to mention watering for 2 hours every 3 days due to very little rain.

Wish I had frogs sitting on my trees!! Very cool

This Spring looked very promising for frogs and toads; with plenty of rain and tadpoles in every mud puddle, but it turned off hot and dry so the little ponds dried up before the frogs could mature.  One year we had a toad that would hop up on our pegola and eat bugs that had been swatted and tossed his way, funny!  I hope this  frog will guard the 3 figs on my Malta Black.

C.H. how is your malta black doing ? The other half is growing very well with some figs i may get to taste.
That ischia black never woke up .

All in  3 gal pots.  Dark Portugese on left, good growth, no figs yet.  Ronde de Bordeux in middle, died to ground in pot, had to restart this year, thin but growing well.  Malta Black on right, growing well with 3 late figs.  It's happy.  I am new to transferring pics and make a lot of mistakes, but learning.  My 2 fig trees at our place in Largo, Fla must be swimming now.  Will see soon.

The malta blacks we have are very nice growers and i look forward to tasting these figs as i have a good feeling there going to be real good.
Your pictures look fine just a little on the small side.

Northern Grey Tree Frog, by the way.  More pics:  http://goo.gl/afyTB

Extremely unusual.  I've only seen a handful in my lifetime.

Thanks Jason, maybe I need to spend more time outside or sharpen my vision one.  That frog had a PHD in camouflage.

Pretty common around my house and garden . I took this photo of one in a Bluebird box over my garden last year. I saw the frog out on the step of the box a few days ago guarding the new fig cuttings in the shade.

Awesome, Barry.  We see the typical green treefrog we had all over FL, but haven't seen any of the northern grey ones in Atlanta area.  These northern greys are always huddled up like a rock.
