Peter's Honey from Munrovia
Prolific - Yes
Holds all fruit - yes
Taste - Poor

Does not seem to be an Ideal fig for Toronto, im bebating if I even want to give this one another season.

Nelson,

You just broke my heart.
P/H is one of my favorites!

Maybe when the tree matures the figs will taste better for you.

Rafed I dont doubt its a great tasting fig, and Im not trying to bash Peter's honey figs in anyway. Not sure if its not getting enough heat or if its just because its still young but the Kadota's I have been eating this season are extremely sweet compared to my Peter's honey.

Nelson is your peters honey a slow growing cultivar I have one and it is real slow in growing new wood do you notice the same...

If you like Kadota, I'd definitely give it another season.

northeastnewbie yes its been a very slow grower but I only got it this may but its grown maybe 6-7 inches this season.

James I really like the sweetness of the Kadota, the peters honey and Kadota figs look nearly Identical but I find my peters honey is not sweet at all ill give it another season and see how it does.

Tom they definately look similar how did yours taste?

Nelson, I'm beginning to feel the same about Brunswick.
Huge figs, prolific, very sweet even, but something about their texture and overall flavor that doesn't sit well with me.

They don't have any character, I think its a variety that appreciates a very dry hot summer because in our humid Toronto summers it splits badly on me.  Same with Capelas, but I can excuse the splitting because that fig is sweet and rich, even when under ripe.

Hey Nas, funny you mention that I just had my first ripe Brunswick fig at my uncle's house and his figs too are splitting. Taste was pretty good was sweet but I found the texture different than other figs I had this year and the overall taste was ok but allitle grainy if thats even a word. The capelas too I find similar to brunswick in leaf and fig shape but found they taste better and even when I ate them at the end of october last year at adriano's house I really enjoyed them they were still very sweet that late in the season.

My PH has had some good fruit, but most have been less than great. Not giving up yet. Definitely wasn't a 10 out of the box.

Last night I went by my parents house and had two more Ripe Peter's honey figs and what a difference. I think this fig I posted pictores of was not good, the figs I had last night were very nice tasting figs and were actually sweet unlike the first 5 I had.

Figs seem to have an elusive "peak of perfection taste and texture".  Two figs picked at the same time from the same tree and looking the same may have quite different taste and textures. One tree, a celeste in my yard, I have thought of tossing out several times, but when I get that perfect fig, it changes my mind. Length of sunlight, temperature, humidity, soil moisture, rain, location of a limb and other mysterious characteristics all have their effect.  Three of my trees(Patrick Super Giant, Brown Turkey and Hardy Chicago.) grow in a protected courtyard behind our store in an old coal storage yard..  These figs are much bigger, more consistant size have a thin skin, and have more of a syrup, juicy texture than those at my house.  Most of the best figs I have eaten looked about 2 days past prime anyway.
