Lebanese black/purple fig

Just wondering if anyone is growing this fig, I keep seeing cuttings on eBay for this one and it looks completely amazing... has anyone tried this variety yet? Or is anyone growing this variety? I'm getting ready to pull the trigger on this cutting, simply looks outstanding.

Are you talking about the one sold by nixgarden? If so, he posted quite a bit about the tree on here, just search for his name.

i am growing two cuttings. hope its as good as it looks

I tried them, they are awesome. The tree is very healthy and quite productive.

I'll know a lot more in a few weeks. He lives just a short drive from me so I will try some breba figs.

I would plan a trip for the main crop sampling, that is what on his photos

Almost pulled the trigger on his cuttings myself... the pics look great. Only reason I resisted was I thought they might be the same as the Lebanese Black which I already acquired.... If not the case, will be high on my list of "to acquire" as I really love the looks of that fig...

I think I will do that too. It's only 20 minutes away!

It's been a while since I posted any images of my Lebanese Black/Purple figs. Here are some images from last year's, 2016 brebas.
This variety has been with our family since 1975, (An heirloom), for a good 40+ years and just three years ago I introduced it to the fig enthusiasts here in the US.
It's a very special variety, at least in my eyes, has a thin skin, tight eye, large, up to 97gr. brebas and the taste is outstanding, rich and complex with a touch of acidity that lingers in your mouth.

Your cuttings are on their way.

Here in Southern California we don't have an issue with wasps; we have plenty of them and to the best of my knowledge this is a common fig.

OK, you convinced me and you sent off my cuttings, thanks. I grow the two Red Lebanese, and they both are fantastic figs. The Lebanese figs seem like winners to me.

Is it hardy in zone 6 and when the main crop ripes?

Drew, this is a special breed and those who have tasted it, agree. It's a must have in any fig enthusiasts collection.
You're gonna love it!
Good luck with your rooting.

The main crop ripens mid-July here in southern California.
As far as hardiness, those who live in zone 6, they grow them in pots and they've had good success.

Thanks Nick, I'm going to graft one and root the other. With grafting I should get two grafts with one piece. Hopefully I'll get one plant out of it at least.

Some one asked if hardy in zone 6, well any fig in pots seem to work here. All of mine survived in an attached garage that gets to be about 25F. Not one died, out of about 35 varieties. The only variation I noticed is difference as to when they break dormancy. Right now all are growing. I had some very small plants bought late in the year. Like 6 inches tall, and those also survived.

Drew, one of the cuttings I sent, you should be able to get two, maybe three out of it.
In the end, at least one, maybe two should take.

I have been having good luck with grafts, which is ironic as I have had bad luck grafting stone fruit. Trying again this year. Only a few takes last year.

Just want to give a thumbs up on the cuttings, I got roots on one cutting in slightly damp perlite in only 7 days!!! I'm kinda surprised how fast I got roots!!!
That's a new record for me by far!!!

I can't tell if the one in dirt has roots yet or not, but it has growth and looks healthy.
