Lebanese Red

Why do you make the statement below and when selling on ebay call yours Lebanese Red you got from Bass. I believe more than a few people are crossed up on this. I don't think I am one of them, but maybe I am. Not aware of the one from Bills. This is what you get when you can't find the true name and rename it. What would keep me from renaming the ones I have and start up a new craze?

I believe the one from marius is red lebanese and bass' is lebanese red.

I'm not really sure what you are saying, but it does seem you are confused. I have not made up any names, I use the names given by Bass and Marius for two different figs. Many people have switched the names which adds confusion.

I did not try to say you had made up any names, only that someone had which is the source of the confusion. I was only refering to where you and many others switch the first and second word at random. Once as in #37 of this post. I made the mistake in my post using the word "you" when I should have used the word "someone", sorry.

This thread was started by Bass and he calls his Lebanese Red. This thread   http://figs4funforum.websitetoolbox.com/post/red-lebanese-fig-pics-5987567?pid=1274779585#post1274779585
was started by Marius and he calls his Red Lebanese and states that it is not the same as the one from Bass.

This only confirms the confusion. In post #47 (agreeing with Harvey post #37)of this thread you(newandawg) stated Marius calls his Lebanese Red and now you say it is Red Lebanese.
I offered for sale on this forum several Lebanese Red (Bass) cuttings on 12/01/12 all which I let go very cheap. Read it and check out the confusion there.
http://figs4funforum.websitetoolbox.com/post/limited-of-lebanese-red-cuttings-6106396?pid=1275917497#post1275917497  I know what Marius calls his as I read his post when he posted it.
One of the two names need to go as a lot of people pay high dollars for one of the varieties and not so much for the other. Probably has led to disappointment.

All you have to do is to name them as Bass Lebanese red, and Marius Lebanese Red. I have both of them, next year I will now the Difference if any... , Bass Fig hopefully will yield some Figs this year, and next year will be Marius figs as well as Bass...Marius tree are still small for this year to see any Figs.
Mark

Bass started and named this thread. He calls his Lebanese Red. Simple. He would know what he calls his figs. Just re-read your responses before you post so you make sure you don't switch the names and cause confusion when responding to this thread. Marius = Red Lebanese.
Bass, I'm hoping to try this great fig this summer. All of mine are just starting to bud out with the rest of my trees

Jake... as I recall you sold your cuttings very fast, you had the post and within a minutes you wrote it was sold, I concluded that you sold them to one person, and you were happy you got some money. we all make decisions and we live with them...good or bad.
Mark

I did sell them very fast. All to one person. And recovered most of my expense. Was very satisfied. I was not looking to make a lot on them. In fact most of any additional cuttings since then have been given away. I may have to put them on ebay this year, before they become as common as Sal's Corleone. Can't give those away today.

Jake

Jake, you didn't have to confirm the confusion, it is pretty obvious that the two names with the two words in the name reversed is very confusing. There
are confusing posts in this thread and the other one you made reference to and one of them is by me. I have no apologies for my post. So sorry your
cuttings went for cheap. I have both and I am well aware of the cost. Since it seems to be of issue to you, why don't you contact the owners and
request one to change the name. The confusion will not go away because it is bothering you.

the best thing is to associate the city that the fig came from with the fig...
Lebanese Bekaa red fig the Marius one
Lebanese Tripoli red fig the Bass One
Mark

I agree, Mark. That is how I differentiate the two. Since they are from two different geographic regions, and both Bass and Marius explicitly state the origin in their eBay listings, it keeps them straight for me. I find that the two have unique flavors and physical characteristics. It is interesting how different the two figs actually are.

Hello folks,
I thought I would chime in.
Although Lebanese red and red Lebanese technically mean the same thing, they are probably different. Just try not to confuse them as they're being sold.
When I first collected this fig I was not given much info other than it came from Lebanon. Later the original grower told me he calls it طرابلسي

My apologies, I should quit posting from my phone when I can only see part of posts and the difficulty just adds to my odds of making a mistake.  I know which is which and my old brain apparently doesn't let my fingers communicate my thoughts clearly.

I know that Bass calls his Lebanese Red and that Marius calls his Red Lebanese so my posts were in error.  When Marius first introduced his Red Lebanese fig here in a thread Bass had commented in the thread (see post #7 at http://figs4funforum.websitetoolbox.com/post?id=5466139 for details) and suggested a name change to help reduce the likelihood of confusion but I don't know if that was ever addressed.  Maybe we all need to learn to write in Arabic?  No, probably not.

I don't believe anybody has used name changes to market their cuttings or trees at a higher price.  Both have sold for good prices though I have only sold Bass's introduction.  I have no idea what Bill's Figs is selling.

Other than being more careful, I don't know what to suggest in order to reduce confusion.  Sorry.
