Letdown ... another BT

Walking the baby, dog and DW tonight, I strolled past a house of a family from Mexico with four fig trees - two that look much like Celeste, another one with huge leaves the size of a tennis racquet, and then one last tree that has very small leaves and medium-sized dark fruit.  My eye was of course on the one with the dark fruit.

I've been watching the breba crop form on the tree with the dark fruit for weeks in agony.  My Brown Turkey on the north side of my house in only 25% sun was ripening off brebas 3-4 weeks ago, so I figured this couldn't be a Brown Turkey.  Besides, the leaves are small ... way smaller than most other trees I've seen nearby, some 3-lobe, but most are 5-lobe.

Finally, tonight, one of the fruits was at the point where it was sagging, neck was bent over, it was good to go.  I laid over a chain-link fence, stomping through some prickly pear cactus to get this .......

(ANOTHER FREAKING BROWN TURKEY)
(and it was starting to mold inside)
(Ps - I still ate it ... sweet, juicy, otherwise crappy)

Hi Jason.

Don't feel like the Lone-Ranger my friend.

Last summer I got mega-excited about a family heirloom fig from "Lebanon."

Turned out to be .  . . a Brown Turkey!

They were exactly like yours, including the semi-open eye, hollow center and mold problem.

The good ones made fantastic preserves, but not something I would give orchard space to, or ever propogate.

Nonetheless, you keep up the search . . . because the NEXT one is going to be gold!  ;-)

Actually, I am watching a fig in the area with an unusual leaf, so we will see what it is.

Take care good friend.

Jason dont feel so bad. I too have a fig that supposedly came from northern portugal that looks just like this.

It is the fig on the right on the below pics. What do you think?

Is the fruit shown breba or main? The eye on my breba crop and main crop are different sizes. The leaves have a strange spatulate mIddle leaf. Could be a BT?

Jason it is main crop plant is 3 years old this season and I haven't gotten any breba out of this plant yet.
