Local Master Gardeners Plant Sale - Fig trees

Our local chapter held it's annual plant sale this weekend.  One table had, probably, 25 1 gal Brown Turkey trees for sale for $10.  Trees were 2 yrs old, from cuttings, 14"-16" in height with 3-4 leaves.

Table sold out in first 45 minutes.  People that knew that I had figs asked me to go home and get some to sell.  I politely declined.  Lowe's has now sold out three shipments this last month.

These people are truly "philosykos"

It seems fig fever is spreading. I think a part of it due to the big box stores selling them for $10. People are willing to risk losing $10 for the novelty, then begin to get interested once they get the fig home.

By what reasoning did you decline?

I would hope a good 2 year old tree would bring more than $10.  Do you think they were selling them too cheap?

I am not a Master Gardener, and I had other plans.  The price was about right for that small of a tree, prices here are $10-12 per gallon with proportional height.  Lowe's/HD sell 6ft whips generally for $19.95 except when they run specials.  I think the logic is as above, $10-12 is a good gateway price and people seem to move up as soon as the see how easily they are grown.  One lady, yesterday, bought 6 to start her "fig ranch", as Tami calls it, I had sold her a tree last year and she now has small figs on that tree and now she loves them.

Last year Lowe's had tables of Kadotas and Hardy Chicagos for $9.99.  I wish I would've bought a couple of Hardy Chicagos then. They were OK sized, it was early spring, based on what others have said, it probably would've given me quite a few figs last summer.
