Long Fibre Spaghnum Moss

Anyone has good experience using the long fibre type of Spaghnum Moss. For now, that's the
only thing available in stores here. Amazon.com has lots of regular SM.

Paully, it works, but do NOT sterilize it!  That will kill the anti-mold properties.  You can purchase it in many places, and you might just find it growing in bogs close to you.  Please don't sterilize it... like steam it till its dead?  You might as well put your cuttings  in newspaper and cotton.

I end up using hedge clippers to shred the longer sp moss.  Just don't do it in the house, as it's very dusty.

Paul, I have been using the Zoo Med New Zealand Sph. Moss for few seasons. It works excellent for me. A bit pricey though.

Navid.

Appreciate all the info. -- THANKS.

I have ordered NZ SM from local garden center. Just happen I was somewhat messy and the dear wife
thought I do not need them from last season, so she got rid of them sometime last year. Can't blame her as they do look like garbage. Good thing is I hardly have anything to root now except in mid March where I plan to root a bunch of Desert King. This would be given away to encourage more figgers in this community.

Grow your own sphagnum!  It's super easy, high yielding, and less expensive than buying it (if you already have a room with lights.)  Live sphagnum also has several fold the mold inhibiting qualities of the dead stuff--which is still pretty good.

Great suggestion - how about starting a thread on growing spaghnum moss. I have
no idea how to do it. I understand there are growing wild in some bog near Vancouver.

there you go sir
