long leaf stem.

some varieties have long leaf stem. is it just a characteristics of a variety? or is it some problem due to lack of some nutrient or the other?

Calvert.

Are JH Adriatic leaves that much different from UC Davis Adriatic?  Wow!  Mine don't have long stems, and look nothing like those.  In ground, in full sun all day every day.

Too much nitrogen?
Not enough light?

they are different. my only cutting of USDA/UCD kicked it last yr. didn't look for a replacement. i have seen number of JH Adriatic figs, but never the tree other than mine, so not sure. Calvert will have some long stem leaf and some normal ones. the one i kept has more of normal ones, but it gets those long stem ones here and there. no FMV showing on the Calvert so far. but we all  know it's there.. lol

possible... but they were like that last yr and this yr. the nodes are not too far apart. around 3".

with you it's probably due to the lack of sun in the beginning. but there are different size leaf stems, also different colorations at the attached area towards the leaf leading to the feeding leaf veins.

Hi,
It comes from several things - and in your case I would say it comes from the pots .
In ground trees have less elongated stems and thicker leaves - don't ask me "why ?" .
Some of the new leaves of the year tend as well to have more elongated stems .
I think that the tree is sending too much sap and there are not enough leaves to take the charge - so the ones present take the full blast and thus grow like that.
I depends as well on the amount of light and the cultivar of course ...
Those leaves have a good green, but still a light green, so not enough light and perhaps too much warmness.

My 3 ufti are under the growlights and one new leaf got too hot so it has fried a bit all around .
I had to put more distance in between the tree and the lights - Still at least two months to go at babying them inside the flat .

Perhaps lack of light or competition for light as in a competing over crowded area.
Hence the leggy growth seen .

i think it's all about the sunlight
