Long Range Weather?

With a record 74 degrees predicted for Christmas Eve I'm wondering if anyone knows if it will ever get cold this winter. Believe me, not that I'm complaining. If this is global warming, I'll take it. Obviously the Farmer's Alminac is wrong. This link may be accurate. If it is correct. I'm looking at just a couple 20ish nights until early February. Not bad at all!

Where are you again A? It's been a lil xtra chilly here in mid to north AZ. The ski Mtn near Flagstaff has already had more snow than all of last year. Hope my baby Figs and Daisy's ol papa tree make it through our version of the great shift. Happy warm winter!

Aaron, I agree, nice to save on the heating bill, however, wondering what effect it will have on sleeping figs. I have mine sheltered and insulated outside against my house. The temperature within the shelter has been hovering around 50*. Wondering if I should crack it open for a few days?????

The next 4 days here is in the 70's and nights in the 60's! ".......Christmas Day it's 74 degrees!

Hot muggy and raining. Been like this for 3 days and suppose to stay like this all week. South louisiana

Yep it's been extremely strange here. Climate change?

Should be nice and warm right through to new year.
If I recall last year December was almost as nice and then temps lunged in January and we had record cold temps all of February.
There is risk of damage to figs if the figs are not fully Dormant when those temps hit and if your winter protection is lax because of false sense of security.
Having said that the last major el nino was 97/98 winter and I was away and didn't protect my in ground figs but they survived albeit with a major haircut.

No complain.
The money saved on (not) heating the garage where figs are stored, can be used for buying PROMIX next spring. The attached garage in Zone 5a has not been belwo +5C so far though we had -9C nights in mid October and coming Sunday forecast is -19C  (-2F).

It is going to be 68 degrees on Christmas here and then the temps should finally drop next week. I'm honestly just hoping my trees don't attempt to break dormancy in December! How long does a winter warm spell have to last for this to happen? Have any of you had this happen?

Its not global warming, its El Niño. Still, it is most welcome here after the last two years.

Wow, I was just about to make a post about this but I see I was beat to it.  This strange weather we are experiencing is making me question my winter protection.  Just last week I began winter protection of my figs.  It has dipped down into the upper 20s  twice I believe both for really short periods, I think 28 degrees.  I put cages around my figs and poured leaves in.  I put plastic over the top of the cage but didn't cover the whole cage to avoid mold.  Today is 72 degrees and I can easily work up a sweat working in the sun.  I am worried, maybe the weather is too hot to have leaves covering my fig branches... Any thoughts???

@ Frankallen , I believe we live relatively close to one another, I am curious if you are protecting your in ground figs this year.  I am using leaves as stated above and I don't want the hot weather to be a problem.  What do you think living in northern alabama?

Man you gota love the South!  It's spitting rain outside....been raining the past 3 days.  We broke a record today of 73 degrees outside.  I had to turn on my AC today and open up my greenhouses!  Honestly, I hope the warm weather stays!  Some of the buds on my gargage tree as budding like its Spring!   ARGH!!!!  Oh well, its better than ice and snow!

We hit around 65F here today in Western MA. The forecast for Christmas is 68! I feel like I'm back in Arkansas. I still have the figs in the basement hatchway, so hopefully the ground is keeping them cool. We've got a long way to go until April/May.

We are having record breaking days in South Florida, Christmas and Saturday....... 87! Record breaking at Naples, Fl today 88 degrees, beat previous record by 3 degrees.
