Longer Days

Well the days are now sloowly growing longer instead of shorter and soon fig season will be back and we will be talking about our trees waking up and for some not waking up. Last season March 15th i first started my process of taking trees in and out of garage to wake them up on days when temps allowed me. Two weeks later we had snow and it turned cold it proved to be a difficult season for a some of us. I do this each year. About 75 days till it all starts again hopefully !
Here are 2 pictures from last season March 15th on driveway and April 5th snow for those who are newer members and perhaps did not view.

Merry Christmas

Thanks dieseler
I like the news and the idea behind it.
I have read that the 25th of December used to be a celebration of the turning around of the change in day and night lengths after the shortest day and the longest night. A good idea for the very cold areas and more so for the snow covered parts.

But remember the movie about the dinosaur running after the van and a close-up of the warning writing near the mirror told the driver that the objects seen in the mirror may be closer than it looks. It could be the reverse here, the temperature hysteresis causing delay between the daylight turnaround and the temperature turnaround which is about 4 to 5 week in Ottawa i.e. the low temperatures (on avg) occurring by the end of January and the temperature turnaround starts at that time (end of Jan & start of Feb). But I hope we get a gentle winter, no deep freeze and no bud kills and the rabbits leave the plant trunks alone until then (followed by a nice sunny  warm summer).

Dieseler, thats the brightest news for X'mas. Comparing this X'mas with last  year ---- this is A+. We have no snow on the ground, surprisingly it turn out to be nice with the sun and 7*C(44*F) instead of the forecast 2*C.

I talk to my bro in aussie and at 9am Melbourne's time, the temp was 28*C(84*F) and they had 41*C(103*F) last week.

Thanks Martin,

Giving us something to look forward to.
