Look at that itty bitty fig!

So while I was sparingly misting the cuttings in perlite/soil (varying percentages) I had noticed a little fig that just popped out of nowhere an said hello. This is on a brooklyn white bs I picked up on eBay. They've been in the soil rooting for 22 days.

Does anyone else see this often?

Should I knock it off and any others that pop up?

Or should I let it fly and see if it develops into anything?

And does anyone have a bunch of 1 gal pots for sale . . . .

yes, it is semi-frequent.  yes, you need to snap it off.  it will drain energy from the cutting, potentially killing it.

Yank it off.

I get my pots at http://www.novoselenterprises.com/default.asp They are very reasonable. Here's a coupon they sent me TAKE5OFF $5 off $50.

Thank you both. I got a little emotional but I managed to snap it off a few minutes ago. Thanks for the lead on the pots.

Vince,
I completely understand your feeling.
What till you need to do your first pruning.
I felt like I was decapitating my precious babies.

I don't think I can do it to the babies but I have a bigger one that Earned my ire.

Outside we had a huge fig tree (bt) when we moved here in 07. It easily reached the second story windows. One evening after a Game dinner and a few libations the local Italian club I caught a branch in the eye while walking into the house. I then took all manner of clipper, lopper, and saw to it. It was daybreak as I finished teaching it a lesson. If there is a Department of Fig Protective Services I'd be in cuffs.

The tree got the last laugh. The dang tree grew right back, beautiful as ever and better fruit too! That was fall of 09. So in spring of 11 I bought a few more trees. Then a few cuttingsnin the summer. A few more in the fall. Now a few more.

Yep.  That is how it all begins.

It was easier quitting smoking. Can't stop picking up cuttings......
