Very nice! What is it? No pulp/meat pic?

中文名字:波姬红。

Per babel fish, above Chinese characters say "chinese name: wave ji Hong". Know figs are called "no flower fruit" in Korea based on Chinese characters. If someone knows Chinese, the name might mean something.

Pete

This is a very popular variety from china - Bojihong or Boji Red.

I don't think the name itself means anything except that the last character describes the fruit as red.

Thanks, guys. I guess their reds are the same as our purples. lol

btw, welcome to the forum, Martino!!

Yea, it is purple.

And thanks for the welcome. I had been reading, just never posted.

Any guess as to the varietal name...but, in English?

Frank

SEE POST # 16

Why would the Chinese bother to name their figs in English?
For example, the Spanish and Italian people do not.

I guess what you meant; is that most of us USA people
(including myself), find it very hard to interpret (or make some sense of)
any other alphabets (symbols) other that Latin/Roman familiar one.
(e.g., we all can associate that De La Reina = Of the Queen)

I do have one fig that I know for a fact that it came from China.
It is a very unique fig, and it was called 'Wuhan'
by the person that introduced it here in the USA; presumably
in honor for the place that it originally came from.

I also have another very young fig called 'Shanghai'.
I know nothing about it, and it has not fruited yet.
But the name suggests of a Chinese origin?

Is this Victoria Secret for Figs?

I would love to see the insides of this fig

I liked the little bags too. I think you could use the tulle circles used for party favors. You can get 100 on ebay (including shipping) for under $7. They are 9 inches in diameter and come in many colors.

Re:  Post # 9  Varietal name in English.

I was wondering if this Chinese-type fig is known by another variety name that we would recognize e.g. "Texas Blue Giant" etc.  Sorry, I was unclear.  I am not seeking a translation into English, of the Chinese name.

Frank

I think Frank is right. I am new to the figs and this forum, but have been lurking for a while. I did some research on Chinese web sites, and here was what I found (rough translation): "It was introduced into China in 1998 from Texas US". In China, it's also known as A132, the number it was assigned when it was introduced. It's apparently very popular in China.

That Fig in China is what we call Here California Brown Turkey,it is also similar to DFIC 17,Black Jack and tEXAS BLUE gIANT.
A good cultivar for ideal climatic condition, with long hot dry Summer, but very bad in adverse condition, with rainy Summer.with short hot season.

Thank-you Herman.  End of mystery.

Frank

I was going to joke about it being a brown turkey, but Herman beat me to it. Well played, sir, well played.

One thing I have learned while being here on the forum is that there are a lot of figs here in America that came from other countries but was give a American name just so we would buy them. Very sad but true.... Most people take things as they are not how America says things should be. Have learned this living next to Mexico for a while. Thanks for the pics and all the post. Wish I could try this fig what ever it's name is!!!!!!
