I was thinking as this July is coolest in 40 years so far.
Also the temps will dip once again into the 50s and highs for next several days will be hard press to pass 70 only, unusual for this time of year.
The past winter my figs that were stored in insulated garage suffered their coldest winter to date were  with a lot of constant garage temps below 20 degrees and coldest days were under 10 with coldest being 6 to 8 above zero for several days when our near record temp hit 23 below zero outdoors. They suffered no tip damage and age range was from 1full season old my VdB TO 5 seasons old, i did have a dormant sent last season Madeira never wake up this spring. My neighbor whom i gave a El Sals 2 years old never woke up from being stored in his garage under same conditions, it was green under the bark in spring but steadily died from top down and is cut to the bucket level.
The trees started off slow as i struggled to get that head start but as i look at them this season they sure have a nice crop of figs growing on them regardless of early cold spring. It just goes to show me that they can take a cold temperature in a large container in a garage long as they are out of the elements, wind and ground freeze thaw cycle ground freeze back and forth.
Im quite happy to say i will not worry anymore come winter storage season except for any real young trees perhaps but with an el nino season coming so they say our winter coming might be mild , time will tell for us in midwest it seems winter is never that darn far off.
