looking fig trees

Hello everybody. I am new to the forum and 2 years old to figs. I currently have 6 trees (in pots) and am looking to acquire a few more. I have lsu, vdb, green ischa, negrone, and i can't remember the other 2. Anyhow I'm looking to add 2-4 more excellent fig tree/cuttings. Does anybody have any or can you point me in the right direction. Thank you

Ps. I'm not really sure what I'm looking for I'm hoping you can help me choose.

Welcome to the Forum.

Look at Lowe's, Home Depot, or local nurseries.

Do some homework, use the forum search function and see what others in the Denver area have posted.

It is not well accepted, by many of us forum members, for you to use your first post to ask for cuttings/trees.

Any such request should also include the offer to pay for the cuttings/trees, or at least the shipping.

My opinion, for what it is worth.

Welcome.  You have some good varieties there.  Ebay can be a good source if you ensure the seller is reputable.

Welcome to the forum Tyler, I agree with Frank that you already have good varieties but do a search on this forum and see what others feel are best for your area. Marseilles Black VS is a good addition.

Well great, thanks for the info. I guess I'm just getting impacient for summer and want more figs On my trees. I'll definitely do a search on the forum.

Oh, on I side note if anybody has cuttings soon available I'd be more than glad to pay for them in fact I had to pay actual money for my current trees. ;-)
I should also add fig trees are not sold in denver.

Tyler,

It is very nice to see another member that lives in Colorado, that puts us up to 5 that i know of.   Don't waste your time with big box stores and nurseries here, I've never seen a fig tree and when asking for them I typically get the dear in the head light look.

I don't believe Tyler was asking for anything for free, just looking for trees to buy, be it from a member or a store.

Tyler, there are a few figs that may do ok in ground hear, yet fruiting may be poor and inconsistant. A member that lives near the Bass Pro Shop off of I-70 is doing some trials. But for the most part we all keep them in pots, and move then in and out as the seasons and weather require.

Any thing you look for or get, you want short season early ripening. I may have some extra trees from what I'm rooting this year, most of them are very well suited to our area, a few are experimental, I'll let know.

I will PM you a list of ideal figs for us once I get onto my computer, it is not a definitive list, but a good start.

Additionally, welcome to the forum it great to have another crazy Colorado figger!!!

Scott

Scott, great to hear. I hope we can all help one another out in q and a. Especially since it's so hard to find people in out situation and area.

I hope to hear great results from you friend on in ground trees. I plan on moving this summer, and planting one in ground.

I can definitely understand getting early ripening trees, the last 2 years 3/4 to 7/8 were unripe. I bought a grow tent to hopefully take them out of dormancy a little early and have a place for them if they need more time. Ill let you know how my experiment goes with the tent.

Anyhow I look forward to hearing back from you and learning a bit more and to making new friends. Looking forward to the PM.

Yeah, there is a good amount of cold hardy early ripening cultivars that are great candidates for our area.   I sent you a PM with a list I've put together from the comments and experience of other members, I hope it helps.

I too am experimenting with ways to lengthen our short season, and plan to place a couple of cuttings I'm rooting now in ground. This will allow me to compare them to their potted duplicate regarding growth, production and ripening fruit.

Thanks for the list Scott. Im going to try a couple and hope for great results. Keep in touch.

I hope so as well.  Please post what you get, if I have same it will be interesting to compare notes. Even though your north of me, the elevation here it's higher with a slightly shorter season and a colder zone. Unless that is your actually in evergreen or maybe golden.
