I'm really in need of a bulk amount of LSU Celeste cuttings. We can do a trade from my stock or if the price is right I'll pay for them. Thanks!

Since by all appearances you'll be selling those cuttings on eBay, perhaps you should pay for them.....

Actually, LSU Celeste is the fastest most dependable ripening fig for growing in containers in zone 4. They are the ones I recommend to folks in Wisconsin and Minnesota to grow. So I usually root them and grow them out and then sell the plants at local Farmer's Market as well as giving a lot of them away as gifts. That said, I have no problem paying for them, which I said in my setup. I couldn't read your tone whether you were being snarky or instructive.

Hmmm, I'm a little bit confused. Is LSU Celeste the same as Celeste? Or is LSU Celeste the same as Improved Celeste? Please advise.

Sorry, I posted this before my morning coffee. I meant to write LSU Improved Celeste.

Beyondista please do not take offense to the tone of that one post. There are occasionally a few people that ask for cuttings "for their own use" and turn around and sell them on EBay. I think you can agree this is frowned upon. You explained what you were planning to do. You are not hiding anything. I see nothing wrong with it. Hopefully someone will help you with the supply of cuttings you are looking for. My improved Celeste is still too small for cuttings. Good Luck!

No worries, no offense taken, but clarity in messaging is essential.

In his defense i call it that too. Just a short name for. LSU IMPROVED CELESTE. Lsu only has improved celeste for the high humidity levels we have here. Helps with spiltting rotting etc. ;))

It's impressive that people in Wisconsin and Minnesota grow figs! I have a friend in Iowa who wants to try and I suggested a Hardy Chicago. But yes, I'll bet Improved Celeste would be a good one for zone 4/5 as an alternative to HC.

LSU Celeste ripens 10-15 days earlier than any other of the 50 varieties I grow. So for people in northern WI + MN it is a perfect choice for a fig that will ripen outdoors in the summer. It is not my favorite tasting fig, but even for me, it is the only cultivar that the trees ripen every single fruit set.

Interesting to hear about this fig. I was not under the impression this was an "early fig" but I have not hear or read much about it. Do you cover your figs or are you growing them in pots?

I have about a 100 figs in 5 gallon pickle buckets. They're all dormant right now in one of our basements. I bring them out of the basement second week of May and leave them outside until the temps get down to the high 20s around the end of October.

Most all the varieties have already budded out in the basement, so that adds a few weeks. So really most of them leaf out the following week when they are outside. But of the 50 plus varieties in my trial 12 varieties ripen figs and few of those are not every year.

Conadria has the best flavor, even ripening, vigorous set and even tho I only ripen a little over half the crop hanging in the 6 or 7 conadrias I have they size up really nicely.

I have a couple 1 year olds of RDB, so I hopefully will be able to see one or two figs this year to get an idea of the timing. I got it because lotsa folks were saying it was their best tasting early fig.

That's crazy, I have 3 VdB, and they never ripen until October and I never ripen that many on a tree. More than 2 months later than LSU Celeste Improved.
