If Herman says it is Col de Dame Noir then it is Col de Dame Noir.

Sas: I will never send someone ,different cuttings or tree on purpose, and I try to be totally accurate when taking cuttings.
I would also be inaccurate to say that i have been pleased with Col de Dame black(noir),this year, because I was not.
The unsuitable cold Summer ,made it not ripe properly this year, but I had ripe fruits ,in the past years so I know how special it is.
Col de Dame gris, did much better in this difficult climate, yet,in better climates both are heavenly good.

I am not sure if he is saying that US fig growers are growing the correct CCD Noir...????, he doesn't state where he is from, so he is relying on local fig growers for advice. Kind of sounds like the local guy wants him to buy fig trees from him not anything from Ebay.......  Herman don't sweat it, maybe a question in general.

I have all three Col de Dame. I just found out that there is a Cuello de Dama and does not look like my Col de dame which came from UCD. The figs on the Cuello de Dama at least in the picture look smaller and more elongated than what I saw on my first year plant.

helikai:

The first two photos are of my Col de Dame Blanc figs picked from my own little tree grown from a cutting that I received from UCD. I know that it is 100% Col de Dame Blanc.
The third Photo was taken from eBay which shows the Cuello de Dama figs and they look different!
Does this mean that my figs are not really Col de Dame?

That was the point that I was trying to make.

Herman: Thank You for keeping us up to date with what is working for you and what is not.

I'm looking too, but not to hard I may add. Might get some in a trade in the future who knows. But one thing I do know is that there are some members on here that selll on ebay. I am one myself and never denied that or why I do. But I know Hurman is very up front. What he has somthing listed as is what it is. Along with many others myself included. There is a thread not sure how far back it is now, but any who its about good and bad ebay sellers. Look at the list.

Hey, I Gave it a Shot, LOL   Will be postin something easier, how about a Black Madiera...????

Cuello de dama will be honey coloured inside, it is a drying fig, not the same as col de dama.

Yes Cuello de Dama is a completely different fig, I am not aware of anyone growing this one here in US.

If anyone had the opportunity to compare the two varieties side by side, I would like to hear their opinion.

Cuello de Dama has nothing to do with Coll de Dama, despite it means the same in Spanish and Catalan.
Cuello de Dama is mainly used for dried figs, Coll de Dama for fresh eating.
Cuello de Dama is very sweet, but in my opinion the taste of Coll de Dama is much better and tasty.

Here you are Cuello de Dama figs (forget the middle picture with several different figs on a dish, it is a decorative picture):

and here, thousands of Cuello de Dama figs during drying process:

All of the Col de dame trees are in high demand, therefore most are sold on ebay or traded for another premium variety

or wait till some of us have CdD in 5th or more yr where cuttings can be distributed more readily. CdD grows straight like a flag pole. my 2nd yr trees don't have any branches. i pinched at about 3' to promote branching.. will have to see what happens next yr.

Thanks for the leads, will keep an eye out on Ebay.   Thanks Jon for the Forum....its fun and educational reading.
