looking for cuttings

I received a number of cuttings from a member (Chills), he was kind enough to get me started in growing fig trees.....alas I'm such an amature, I'm not one especially looking for fruit, but, for the plant itself.  I have only one plant left.  (sad face).

I don't like bidding, and only saw bids on ebay.  Is anyone interested in selling some cutting?

Also, I planted some fig seeds from figs I got in the grocery, don't think they could be considered fresh as the figs were in a plastic container.  Anyway, they did come up and those little things are as thin as thread!!!  Very interesting.

But, again, if anyone has some for sale, I'm interested.

Thanks.

Where are you located and what varieties are you looking for?  Also will they be planted in the ground or grown in pots?

If you are not interested in fruit, then caprifigs (male figs) would work just as well for growing trees and having "fig" foliage. I can send you them for about shipping cost. I also have some seedling trees which you could have for cheap.

>>> I planted some fig seeds from figs I got in the grocery,

The most probable outcome from these seedlings, is that
most of them will be caprifigs or smyrna fig types (needing
caprification to set fruit). If one is VERY lucky, one may get
a good fig (or 2?).

I also think that is what Jon was basically implying....

If one wanted to grow figs for the wonderful foliage, you may also consider planting Oak Leaf Hydrangea.  The foliage is incredibly similar to fig.

For an example, see:  http://figs4funforum.websitetoolbox.com/file?id=876807

In that picture, there is only one fig tree, you will see the trunk betwen the A/C units, and there are approx. 8 branches total.  Everything in the bottom left of the picture (dark green and maroon) is Oak Leaf Hydrangea.  If you see the burgundy/maroon foliage in the middle background, this is also Oak Leaf Hydrangea and so is everything in dark green to the right of it.  The texture of the leaf is very similar to fig as well.

It has good growth habit and can handle full shade through part sun, sometimes full sun.  This one is on the north side of my house next to the BT fig in full shade.  Both are doing fine, although I would probably get more figs if I planted the BT elsewhere.

These will be in pots, I'm just wanting house plants.  I just started another thread. ... see "Lucy or what????"
