Looking for Dark Greek Pix.

Can someone please post a photo of a Dark Greek.

If you don't want to post it please send it to xgrndpounder@yahoo.com

Thanks,

Figluvah, I suppose you are requesting for Lou's Dark Greek fig pic. I don't have a pic of a ripe fig from Lou's tree yet, maybe next season. I do have a pic somewhere of a Large Dark Greek that is similar to Adriano's website.

Cecil here is my dark greek pics from last season. It was in its 1st season

Thanks Guys

My Dark Greek does not look like those, mine is almost jet black!

I have one ripening now, will post photos of fig and leaf in a day or so.

Again thanks.

Hi Cecil, this plant ripened these figs pretty late last season so not enough heat to get darker. Im pretty sure they are supposed to be much darker they did however taste quite good. This is the strain from Lou P. the only other dark greek fig im familiar with is the one Adriano has via Prof. Michal Bostock wich is a different fig.

Hi Nelson,

Well we have one thing in common, (the source)

We have not been having no trouble being in HOT weather, It is setting heat & drought records here!

My leafs look like your B. Greek

I will post pix soon
Thanks.

Cecil,

I don't have pics of the fruit at this time but I will tell you a funny story.

Couple years ago Lou sent me a bunch of cuttings. He is not stingy either, these cuttings were approx. 8 to 10 inches long each and about ten of them.

So I cut some and rooted them and gave away a few cuttings. The cuttings I was rooting were doing well so I gave some of those away and only kept a couple for myself.

All is well till suddenly they went Kaput! Now I'm out.
To make matters worse is when a couple of the people I gave to thanked me for such healthy plants or cuttings. Now I'm steaming and kicking myself in the rear. LOL

Last year around this time of year I contacted Lou and explained to him what had happened and true to his word he sent me more last Fall.

But this time nothing is going anywhere till I am 100% for sure all is safe.

The pictures below is one of the ones I rooted this year and from day one this one fig caught my eyes and something told me it was special and it would do o.k.. These pics were sent by my daughter couple hours ago. I had re-potted it from a 20oz cup to a 3gl. pot less than a month ago. It looks happy.

As for the other cuttings, I gave them away.

Nelson, I think in time this fig will ripen earlier. I have seen many of my late figs ripening earlier. I was lucky to root this one as I was given a spare cutting(Thanks Cecil) and I am giving it lots of TLC. If I remember correctly, Lou mentioned it is a reliable fig for his zone + good tasting. My tree is at least 3 ft tall & well branch. Next season I hope to get figs from it. My hunch is this fig is better than the one shown on Adriano's web site.

Rafed, I did a similar thing last year with my left-over UCD cuttings. I used only one of each of the varieties they sent me, cutting the long ones in half so I would have two tries, and keeping the others in the refrigerator as back-ups. However, when all of them had leafed out I figured I was home free, so I gave the rest of them to a member who was looking for some cuttings. Little did I know then that a few tender leaves isn't much of a guarantee!

Thank You Rafed I was one of those lucky people who got a rooted cutting from you in April 2010 and that plant grew 6+ft that season and ripened a dozen figs.

Paul I agree plant was very young last season and im sure in the next 2-3 season's it will be much earlier. This spring was horrible and delayed my plants by one month compared to last year. Infact this spring was so bad that I dont even have main crop yet on my Bronze Paradiso wich is usually the first to form main crop and my oldest plant.

Ken,
Something tell me you won't make that mistake again. LOL

Nelson,
You are welcome, Did you see your FDR on my air-layer thread?

Amazing color. Glad you send me your spare cuttings. Thanks to LP for finding this one & sharing it.

Figluvah, you forgot to say how yummielicious it is.

Hmmm,

I wonder if Martin has taken notice? It is dark after all.

Paully yummielicious it is.

We rate it @ about another 8.

Pretty darn good for just planted out there in the Nematodes, Gophers, fire ants and etc,etc
