My Co-worker gave me some "Desert king" cutting 2 weeks ago, I use bag method for rooting, I find some mold today, It might fail as well.

Anyway, within 2 week,   I bought 6 "Desert king" variety , but they look quite different, my question is that, Are they real " Desert king"?

I will have lots of Desert King cuttings that I'll happily send for postage. I'll start a topic once the cuttings are ready.
I purchased my tree from Raintree a few years ago. It has been a strong grower, but is unfortunate not productive in my climate. The whole 6' tree is also available if anyone wants to come to Denver and get it. Though, I wouldn't recommend it for the south west.

I have wasted 5 years on this unknown fig tree, it bears main crop figs but all drop before ripen, this Tree is on " Chop" list, I do have couple sucker bady plants from this tree and they should be " chopped" As well.

I have couple bady " Desert king" fig trees, I did look at database of fig  tree in Fig4fan,  Their "Desert king"'s leaf is different than mine, However, I got mine from un-reliable source, So I am worry about that I got the wrong " Desert king" variety.

P.S. Reliable source want $25/ plant while un-reliable sources want $10 per plant.

2 of my Co-worker brought back Their young " Desert king" figs, It was big green figs, It tasted very juice and sweet, They look quite close to pictures below.

I got some cutting from my co worker, I use Zig bag/wet paper method for rooting, I change water once every 2 day, It is more than 2 weeks now, They are molded without root, It is 3rd time that I try bag method and fail with molds, It doesn't have root now and I put them in plastic cups with perlite/soil for my last chance now.

My points is that, Are all " Desert king" variety same?

If my fig trees are successful with sweet big fig, I do not mind to giveaway cutting.

my cuttings rooted in 3 days but just now i check them and they are slimy . I'm pretty sure that they are done for.

I have DK for postage or trade.

I still keep thinking about giving it a try, what do you think our climate is lacking?

Scott, I'm not sure what the issue is. It sets lots of brebas, but drops most of them. Another grower in the south west has reported similar trouble with this cultivar. There are plenty of other varieties that do so well here, that it is time to cut this one and move on. Maybe it can be productive for someone else.

I got 3 dk and will have a lot of cuttings

Hi  I_Like_figs:

My DK cutting ( From sweet figs parent) was badly molded using Zig-bag/wet paper method, I cleaned it up and cut-out molded section and put them in cup with whocare pot soil, After 3 days, It grows some leaf and root.

I am at west coast here near pacific ocean, Our climate is very moisture during winter and spring time,   Most people here are not fig lover, They just "plant and forget" with only minimum caring,  DK is very reliable fig tree here even with minimum caring, It bears a big breba starting when young with sweet figs, more sweeter than sweet grapes.

Most DK here do not bear main crop at all possibly save energy for big breba crop next year, When they are mature, occasionally, They bear a very small main crop.

Hi Chris,

I have a 60 year old Desert King.

I would be happy to do a trade with you.

Hi Shirley:

Wow, you have a awesome "Desert king" tree.

I rooted some DK this summer. Provided they survive the winter, in the spring you are more than welcome to have one!
