Looking for the best dwarf fig

Hello,

I am new to the forum and would like some help.
I am looking for the best dwarf fig to grow in a pot that can stay in a pot permanantly. I am a zone 5 so would bring my dwarf fig in the house in the winter.
I want a variety that will still bare good fruit even in a pot. I would like one that has good yeild and the fruit is tasty.
Can some one tell me what a good dwarf fig that meet these criteria may be? Also were might I obtain one without braking my bank account?

Thank you for the help.
Mary

From reading here and there, Negronne may fit some important ones of your so many criteria but, of course, there are many others too.

That was my first thought as well.  Negronne/Violette de Bordeaux

I would bury deep and grow in bush form.

Ok great thank you...do you know where I can find this?

Also once I get it can you all teach me how to grow it:)

Look at the middle of this page:

Click on each nursery name till you find a couple that have it and are close to you.

I recommend doing this to find one cheap enough nearby.

I agree violette de Bordeaux and Black Jack are good candidades as is Adriano's  Fico Genovese Nero if you can get your hands on one.

Growing a fig tree in a pot can be kept small with diligent pruning and management of the rootball.

I grow container plants and vary them between 4 to 6 feet. But with more severe pruning which they can take i could keep plant at a much smaller height. I could also prune one of those 4 to 6 ft trees down to 2 to 3 feet
in winter storage and it would produce that season but not the same amount as the larger tree of course.

Bonsai plants which i know nothing about would be an " Extreme" example
i have seen brown turkey in Bonsai form .

Is Negronne a violet bordeaux or visa versa or similar.
I bought a violet de bordeaux from edible landscaping and this plant grows well its certainly not a dwarf in my opinion growing in a pot .

Some fig plants are more aggressive , they grow faster than others and would need to be pruned accordingly.

The same nursery i bought my violet de bordeaux from list Petite Negri "the dwarf plant is very productive"
I cant say either way as i do not grow this plant.

If you grow it in a pot or in ground,my experience tought me that Figs that are vigurous and grow andf produce fast are still the best candidates.
The cultivars that grow very slow, are lyable to have a virus or other deasese that make them grow slow.
They will also be slow in producing fruits, for the same reasons I specified above.
Any cultivar is happy in container as long as the Owner prune the top,and roots when needed,as Dieseler also wrote.
In zone 5 I would go for a cultivar, that needs less Sommer heat to ripe fruits, but healthy and vigurous:
Examples:
Hardy Chicago
Marseilles vs Black
Gino's fig
English Brown Turkey
Sweet Georg
Atreano
143-36
Desert King
Scott Black

And Many others I have no experience with, because there are so many cultivars!
