I am looking for varieties from the Abruzzo region of Italy.  My wife and family came from there and they are coming to visit this summer.  I would like to present them with a nice tree from that region. I contacted Maggie about it, but she has no cuttings or plants this year to sell.  I am looking to buy or trade (I have a little over 100 varieties).  I researched and found a few varieties such as Abruzzese, Salce (close enough, Molise) and a few others.  I am willing to pay fair price or trade.  It is just important for me to give this tree or trees (for brother and sister as well) as a nice gesture...Also to convince them to start growing and eating figs.  None of them have ever eaten a fresh fig!  Thanks.

Well, I can't help you with fig trees from the Abruzzese region of Italia, but given where you live, take your visiting family to eat dinner in South Philly at LeVirtú, the best Abruzzese restaurant in America!

Hi Bill, i have a live plant on it's way from Italy called fico Filacciano. It's from the Abruzzo / Lazio area. It's an ancient and very popular variety in Italy. The problem is i live in Holland and the plant is not that big yet (approx. 80 cm) so i won't have any cuttings before the end of the year. If still interested by that time send me a p.m.

Look up a thread here on Julie's fig that is from there.

Both of my parents and family friends are from Abruzzo but this winter completely decimated all in ground trees. My protected fig is finally sprouting from the roots so no cuttings appear viable. There are a lot of unhappy Italian Americans in Philly right now.

  If you found Salce, then you found Acciano and Troiano Calabrese, too. Try also Maggie  Maggiore at https://sites.google.com/site/mediterraneanfloragarden/. If you find any others, let me know. My grandparents came from very close to Castel di Sangro.

Thanks, Dale.  I put in the OP that I contacted Maggie, but unfortunately, she has no cuttings or plants available this year.  Thanks for the info regarding Acciano and Troiano Calabrese.  I didn't know these were considered from the Abruzzo region (or close).  I had a variety I got from Tennessee called Tagliocozzo Green and traded it a few months ago w/o knowing that it was from that region.  That is frustrating.  I am looking to get a variety soon from da Burgh called Abruzzese that was originally from Maggie.  I'll let you know if that works out and I can eventually pass some cuttings to you if interested.

Bill, I'd be interested in acquiring the Tagliacozzo fig, that's the hometown of a good friend of mine in Yonkers, NY. His father's and father-in-law's trees were complete losses this winter.
Check your PM, I took a drive to Attilio's and got a couple of root suckers from him, which came from Pratola Peligna.
The Attilio Purple and Attilio Green (he calls it White) are so far unidentified, but I've circulated a couple of cutting to a few members.

Attilio and I discussed pruning yesterday, and I will go to his house this Fall, prune his 10-12 year old potted leviathan :) and make cuttings available.
The Green (White) is only kept in ground, so it had some major setbacks.

I didn't get a PM, but I don't have the tagliocozzo green because I traded it away w/o knowing it was from that region. I got it on eBay from an Italian seller who brought it from there to Tennessee and grew it there with minimal protection in zone 6b. I haven't seen it listed yet this year, but I know it was last July when I bought it. Thank you for the information regarding the Attilio varieties. I will have to keep alert this fall when you make them available.

Thanks, Bill. I am just potting up three Abruzzese from Maggie. (A fourth, believe it or not, I gave to a Mennonite.) However, I am always on the look-out. Mario supplied the Troiano and the Salce. He also gave me Acciano, but I think I am cursed with respect to that one. Troiano was great. I am hoping for some Salce figs this year. Maggie is relocating, so I don't know when she will be in full swing again.

Anyone who has clippings of varieties that came from Abruzzo, I am certainly interested!  My family is from Corfinio, a small village between L'Aquila and Sulmona.  Many old fig trees there, and I assume the one my grandpa had came from a cutting he brought over  Next trip, maybe I'll bring my clippers along...
