Loslunas's ABQ-1BB

Any others have this variety. I ate the fig before I got a picture of it, sorry. Bought cuttings from Jose S.(Loslunas) in winter spring 2009. The fig is greenish yellow about the size of Celeste. Was sweet and rich with a closed eye---reminded me of a really good Celeste. It's definitely going to be a keeper. Here's a Pix. of the plant about 3' tall.

Tim as you know I have the twin to yours and it looks about the same size but its still in a pot. It has plenty of figs on it but none are close to ripening. I will get pictures and let you know what I think of it. I saw the pictures the Jose posted of this fig and it looked like a good one.

I just found picture,

I'm thinking of planting my extra one too---it sure was good. Gene, I'll be glad to know what you think when the time comes. I think Jose's pictures look good too.

Well Tim I got to taste my first ABQ-bb1 or is it ABQ-1bb. I need to correct that statement, I ate my first one but I did not taste it. It seemed fully ripe or a little past full ripe. It had no fig taste at all but was just sweet. Since it was the first I'll chalk it up to that. There are more to come later and hopefully they will have some flavor. The fig has a different shape than I'm used to seeing and the flesh color was amber with no hint of red as were the ones in Jose's pictures. So for now the jury is still out.

Very tight eye

I do love the way they grow in clusters.

Tim,

Are you mulching with grass clippings or hay?

JD

Here are my pics taken from the mother tree:

JD, yes, I am using mostly grass clippings--they stay put. I have found that using leaves or hay is messy and blows all over in the wind.

Jose, thanks for posting the picture here.

Gene, glad you got to taste it, although not up to par. The first one I had was fantastic, but others since have lacked flavor I'm sure due to the rain we've been having for the last 5-6 weeks. These came directly from the source so I know they weren't mixed up. It is rain tolerant which is a plus here, so I just think it needs more time. Mine had amber pulp, too---maybe just cultural or climatic differences?

Those pics look great Gene,

For me sweet is plenty. My kids dont really care for the complexity and just want sweet!
