Thanks for all the kind e-mails from forum members who said prayers for my dad.  Unfortunately he passed away last night.  He absolutely loved figs and I posted a while ago that me and him polished off 80 figs in one sitting while watching the cruise ships sail out from his back deck.  He had a very tough year.  In june he lost his wife of 54 years then he lost his house a month ago due to the hurricane.  He was displaced and I tried my best to get him back in his home but there was just too much devastation in his community (the gas and electricity are still not back).  I truly believe that one reason he lived to the age of 93 was because of all the figs, paw paws, and numerous other fruits that we grew on his property.  He devoured all of them.  I appreciate all the good spirited members here and am honored to be part of this community.

Very sorry to hear this Ed.
When you first posted about you and your dad eating 80 figs while relaxing together watching the ships sail out , I thought it was the greatest picture of just hanging out with ones father.

Ed, I'm so sorry to hear about the loss of your father. It sounds as if he had a wonderful life, and wonderful family.

My own father also lived into his 90s growing and eating the bounty from the yard.

It is never easy to lose a loved one. My thoughts are with you.

It's always so hard for me to know what to say at times like this.

I am so sorry for your loss but it is great that you got to share so many of your adult years together. He sounds like he was a great dad. I'm sure you will miss he dearly.

Please accept my sincere wishes that your suffering is short lived and that your life gets back to normal (as much as it can) ASAP. I hope your loss is offset by the knowledge that your father and mother are together once again.

Ed, So sorry for your loss. For most of us, are Dads, Papa or Pops are our hero's. These hero's stay in your heart forever. If I had to wager on it, I'd bet he ate 41 of the figs to your 39.

Ed, I'm not one for eloquent words about loss, which is stupid, I've lost almost everyone I love in life.

I am saddened by your loss, just imagining how it would feel for me to lose my own father. I'm sorry for your family's loss, sorry for what you're goin through and have faith your pops is in a better place, alongside the love of his life.

 All my figs have been exposed to  FMV,some have it, some don't. It doesn't seem to bother them so it doesn't bother me.

It is always hard to lose a love one.  My thoughts and prayers are with you.  It always nice to have memories like the one you graciously shared with all of us.  We all have a picture of that in our minds.  Take time to grieve but always remember the good times you shared together.
