Low Temperature

The low temperature in my area tonight is 3 degrees Celsius. Would it be okay for me to leave my figs outside tonight?

I just bought a new plant from Vancouver where it has been considerably warmer than here, and I have no idea whether this will effect it.

Thanks

Keagan it is better to be safe in case the forecast change for unforeseen reason(s). Having said that, it depends at what stage the plant is in coming out of dormancy. It is the tender shoots that are always at risk at temperature close to freezing and not the plant. In most cases the plant may have enough reserve to restart new shoots after frost bite but gets risky when the tender shoots are killed by frost more than once.

At least I found someone to sympathise with as far as figs and temperature zones are concerned !

Thank you. I decided to bring it in for the night as it did get close to freezing. It will probably be like this for a while.

It is really fun growing tropical plants in such a cool climate. There is not a lot of nice vegetation here in dry Alberta, so it is nice to be able to have a selection of foreign plants.
