Lowe's Brown Turkey Question

Both trees, Hardy Chicago and BT were discounted to $2.00 each, so I grabbed both. I will grow them and compare but wondering if anyone else has had experience growing this variety of BT from Lowe's. If it turns out to be a decent English Brown Turkey variant, I'll keep it. However, I am not a big fan of "Brown Turkey" figs in a broad sense.

The hardy chicagos grow very well in my area,do not know about the Browns, but they have not be doing to well for the last 13 years!! Ha Ha Ha

Wow, and I thought I hit the lotto when I got my HC for $5 today from Lowe's.

Leon,
The 3 Lowes Brown Turkey I purchased in NY were California Brown Turkey, Large fruit and large eyes. They were very prolific and produced a fig at each leaf node. I potted the plants in 5 gallon buckets, after bare rooting 2, but not root pruning.

In 3 months (June till now) the two that were bare rooted grew 3 1/2 feet. I harvested 3 figs (they were OK) and pinched more than a dozen off each plant. The one that was not bare rooted grew 6 inches.

I am actually considering getting rid of these because, the last figs that were ripening started to rot on the tree (we have had rain for the last 3 days).

PS I also purchased Kadota, Hardy Chicago, and Mission plants. The hardy Chicago figs are very good, several ripened. the Kadota is sweet and I rate it a keeper for now. The mission did not ripen any figs, but the plant was productive. My Plants were $5.00.

 Good Luck

Lame lowes on the West coast..no figs here.

but I got some of their blueberries

The little HC had a good number of figs on it for it's size. I already have a HC given to me by a very generous forum member. It will be fun to compare the two over time.
FiggyFrank, $5 is also an excellent price. They usually go for $10.
This is the first time that I have seen HC offered at Lowes in Albuquerque.

Lame here as well, peaches, pears, plums, but no figs since first shipment in spring!  No other sellers here, except me, lol

Leon, nice purchase.

Not sure if I just had good luck, or what, but I have both a HC and BT that were each purchased from Lowes ( HC last year, BT this year). The HC has really done well now in its second year in the ground, yielding well over 75 tastey figs.

The BT, I have in a large container, and to date have sampled about five large plump and tastey figs. The only problem with this one is that it decided to grow laterally more left to right vice vertical. Still about ten figs left that I'm hoping will ripen up here in these last few weeks of warm weather in Maryland.

Good luck with your purchase, and lets hope both turn out well.

Cheers

Here in Socal, the figs go for 24.99 for a 2 feet tall plant in a 3 gallon pot. I didn't get their BT, but I was very impressed with their Black Jack and Kadota, both keepers.
