You may be getting itty-bitty babies, meaning four or five inches tall. I bought the LSU purple starter plant... They were cute, but tiny little fig tree starters

It said 8-10 on the magnolia and 6-12 on the LSU so we will see i will post pics of the unboxing etc

They are tissue culture plants, and will be tiny. They should grow well though. I ordered 3 brown Turkeys last year and 2 of the plants they sent have red terminal buds while one does not. Still  a long time till I see any fruit, so who knows what they are. Why magnolia, isn't that another name for Brunswick?

Tony!!! I have the Mag growing for you. Why spend the extra money? Frank

Hey hoosierbanana!

What are tissue culture plants?  Green cuttings?

Suzi

Hey frank I'm probably gonna pot up the one i bought and bring to dads anyway and Brent yes i believe they are part of the Brunswick family but i just had to get something i got the fig bug I'm waiting for three cuttings to root I'm waiting on mulberry cuttings and some other fig cuttings i haven't gotten yet i have plenty of buckets and plenty of friends i want to give trees to and turn them into fig nuts

PS Frank i didnt know you where doing an air layer you never told me i thought you where just going to send me cuttings ?

Suzi,

Tissue culture is a technique of growing an entire plant out of a small piece of leaf or some other parts of the plant. This process is done in special conditions and with special lab equipment. The advantage is to avoid multiplying diseased plants. If the disease is in the bark of the plant, the healthy tissue is taken from leaves and if the disease is in the leaves, the healthy tissue is taken from cambium. Result-- a healthy young plant.

Thats another reason Boris i figured what the heck

I leaned something new today, thanks suzi.

Very interesting "tissue culture!"  Sort of like cloning?

I got some LSU Purple fig trees from their website that says 8"-12" a few days ago.

They were 4" tall, maybe 8" if you measure the roots too. ;)

The leaves look healthy and disease free.

All of my Floridahillsnursery plants were small, but grew very very vigorously. They do have a tendency to put out more than one trunk or produce a "bushy"fig. I nipped back my LSU purple to one shoot, growing vigorously and it has already put forth three or four new suckers from where the three old suckers were growing.  My plants last year went from small pot to gallon pot to three gallon and needed transplant this spring, so they should grow a lot in one season.

Thanks guys its good to hear that you had a positive exp with them
