LSU FIG GENEOLOGY

To all my new found Cajun friends- Thanks for a real Louisiana welcome and get together.

Does anyone have any geneology on the LSU figs?  The Purple looks real similar to the Negronne family, especially the petite Negri.  Did O'rourke start with a Celeste root stock and work in the Petite Negri?  Did he have a rootstock or variety of choice for a start?  Did he do it with pollen?  Wish I knew!!  Anyone know of a good read on this?

BTW- Not all witches ride brooms, LOL

Alan,

LSU used the C-1 Caprifig a lot in their various breeding programs. Same with the Caprifig 228 line. Seems UC Davis has been the Caprifig source for many good fig programs.

This article tells about some of the LSU figs.

@Chapman THX this is exactly what I hoped for, do you have any more?

dkirtexas, that's all I have.  Someone else posted that link  awhile back, and I saved it.  I bought a Champagne fig tree after reading it.

Chapman,

There are several more articles from the LSU breeding program. These however are typically written for the publication in agriculture research journals. So far only a few that I have seen are public accessible.

Here is O'Rourke's publication about LSU Gold:

Similar publications in HortScience, volume 45, detailing Champagne, O'Rourke and Tiger figs will be available for free download in January. You can get them now, but you have to pay.
