LSU Gold first fig.

These pictures are of the very first LSU Gold fig I have harvested. It is shown with a small specimen of Hardy Chicago. The LSUG plant is finishing its 2nd summer in the ground. It was a 4" pot plant from Almost Eden before that. It is now 7 to 8 feet high with lots of large lateral branches. It has about 5 more that will almost certainly ripen.

Its fun to get even incremental larger and more diverse harvests here in my 4th year of growing figs.

Nice looking figs Tom. I must have your tree's brother. I got mine from AE also. It been in the ground since last October or November. I kept it in a pot for a year before putting it in the ground. It's about 5 foot tall and have produced a nice crop this year. They taste very good but then I haven't met a fig that I don't like yet.

That Hardy Chicago fig looks tasty .

great pics enjoy your figs.

How was it?  I had my second LSUG today and it was very ripe.  I think I'd rather have a little more texture to it.  It was pretty soft but OK.

I am probably only about 30 miles south of you and my LSU Gold was really good. I got mine from EL as a 3 gallon last fall. It will probably produce no more than 10 but I picked quite a bit off. My best one actually still looked almost mint green on the skin.

I pick it like I did as a kid. Soft when  squeezed between index and thumb. Skin cracking is of no relevance. So far, when I waited for sugar spots, some have been over ripe-i.e. St Anthony's.
