This is the first and only LSU Purple this year. It was rooted last year and I had 3 figs this season that were viciously attacked by the squirrels. This one I covered by a plastic bottle and it survived.
The taste is hard to describe. It is somewhere between a melon and light flavored berry. No crunch but very juicy. I would give it 8, but it was highly rated by my wife, 9 out of 10.
The fig is quite large. 
For a comparison, I placed the LSU Purple next to a Panachee and Pastilliere.

That panache ... wouhaou ! What a beautiful flesh ! I think I need to give a try to that strain, although here in my zone7, it will be hard to get it to fruit properly!
How big and old are those trees ?

Your pastiliere is beautiful as well, but I'm surprise you're already having them ... But you're in Zone10 so that may explain this !
This is something I like : Tasting different strains in the same meal ! You can than really better appreciate the different flavors !

They look fantastic, I bought a panachee at a local Italian garden center for €13.00 and planted it over there can't wait to taste some of its fruit.

My little 2nd year panachee has about 9 figs growing nicely. I have to say it is a very attractive fig!

LSU Purple is in its second year, Pastilliere was rooted past winter, and the Panachee is a 4 year old tree, all potted.
They all have different taste profiles. Panachee has the toughest skin.

A 10a zone is perfect for figs! I only wish I had enough land to plant them.

Panachee should do well in zone 7 depending on how cool it is, it can be sensitive to lots of rain causing splits though.  Great for making jam and drying too.

Both figs look fantastic. Just purchased a small LSU Purple from Wellspring and can't wait to add it to my fig garden.

Here in Zone 8A, my LSU Purple has produced what will be its first fig of the year. It is a 3-year old tree that came to me via a nursery in Athens, GA.  It is bush-shaped and has over 30 figs on it, give or take, with about 10 of them beginning to show color. So in another week I, wife and granddaughter (assistant fig person!) - and not the birds - will eat them. I will try to post a pic when I pick the first one in a day or 2. Next up: White Triana followed by the San Pietro from JM in Boston, Mass.   Ciao, Amici!  Joe
