My wife got me a LSU purple from EL for my birthday and it arrived in the mail today. The leaf shape looks off from other LSU purple photos I've seen. Is this spade shaped leaf just because its young or do you think they sent the wrong thing?

It may be too early to tell.  I have different varieties that start off with the spade shape as well.  They should find their shape with the next couple of leaves.

I bought four cultured ones this fall, here's one with  the leaves beginning.

As stated I would wait until you get 2 - 3 more, somethimes the first one or two are not normal.

I looked at my tree this morning (at has still about a dozen leaves) and one leaf was like the one in the photo. Your  tree is young and the leaf grew out of season. I agree, you should wait for some real growth.

I have a fig in a gallon container and every leaf is that shape. Yet, I was assured that in three years, they would turn tri- and quinqi-lobed. I also have one that was stressed a little and I moved it and it reverted to that leaf shape.

My little seedling has that same shape.  I don't think you should worry until it gets some maturity under it's belt!

Good luck!

Young leaves might not look like the mature. Having said that, some varieties show proper leaves very early.

Mine was the same as yours, spade shaped, for a year or so then they started to change to multi lobe shape this past summer. Give it some time.
