So my first two were busts. An unknown (delicious) green fig, and a possible brown turkey.

Am I getting closer? I want to leave it on the tree just a little longer, and can post pictures of the inside then. I'm just afraid of getting my hopes up at this point...

That does not look right to me, mine are darker and less pyriform, more elongated. Your fig looks a heck of a lot like Celeste. Don't mean to burst your bubble, figs do vary by location and on young trees...

  Tamar I just hope it hangs on.  If you're getting the same storm I'm am,  We're getting hammered!

Tamar, it also took me 3 tries before I got the right LSU purple, the third time was finally right. Yours doesn't seem quite dark enough but I heard there is two strains of LSU purple, but I don't have any hard proof of that. This is what mine looks like.

Looks kinda like Celeste to me too.  But hey the good news is it looks like it is starting to crack and with all the rain we are having you should probably go ahead and enjoy it.  I thought I would try leaving some of mine on the tree until they would just fall off when touched and they were already fermented and vile.   Made me so upset I just ate everything that was anywhere close and I feel good about my decision.

You have a celeste NOT LSU Purple

Here's my LSU Purple from last year.  It was labeled Celeste, the 'ole pro's hear ID'd it. 

Unfortunately, the birds enjoyed most of the figs this year, I had about 12 and enjoyed every bite;)
